Have you had to change much with the suspention , brake ect to cope with the power it puts out?

When the power is being pushed up and up with a turbo method does the effects of turbo lag worsen? I remember reading how Senna in his Lotus turbo would always drop and extra gear down to keep the rev's up at all time so he coul always benifit from instant power with the turbo.

Is the setup with the engine like a RS500 or is the engine a more advanced evolution.

Must be one hell of a drive with the 50/50 split and areo propities of a touring.

sorry for all the questions fuzzy but I've been realy curious about you beast for some time :)

the suspension is a bilstein/spax combination and im working on the brakes just now since the stage 3 power upgrade.turbo lag only increases when you step up a size in turbo housing not when you upgrade the power by upping the boost.
i went for a small housing .48 stage 3 T34 turbo so it has minimum lag with boost starting to kick in at a low 1400rpm. my other T34 with the .63 housing is more laggy with boost coming in at 2500ish rpm. i have the .48 fitted for better accereration as thats what its geared up for rather than top end.
its the same basic engine idea as the rs500 but it only uses 4 injectors rather than the 8 the rs500 uses.
the weight distribution was measured at 52/48% which i feel makes it that bit easier to control as when the back end kicks out its effortless to hold and it more or less pulls itself back into line making me look like a hero of a driver :D

if i was you id get some coilovers and have it polly bushed, get it sitting perfect. if 1k is a budget i wouldnt attempt a turbo. if your after performance get decent 6branch, lumpy cam and a lightend fly.. as you said you already have MS so a quick fiddle on the laptop and your off :)

It must be a right giggle when you can out drag a Ferarri!

Am I right in guessing the engine is actually a very ligt unit too ( Ally limp? ). What kind of RPM is it doing? I would guess it's a very very revy 4 pot ( like a Civic Type R ). did you have to make a full custom exhuast of hve to moddified the downpipe to fix onto a BMW system?

revs as normal, not as high as a type r. iirc peak power was at around 5300rpm.
its a single 3" straight through system with 1 large rear back box.
the engine must be lighter than the old m20 as i had to fit -60 springs on the front as it sat to high with the -40 springs.

Baz - thanks buddy

Fuzzy - Were the problems with potential power loss with have the system so long for the touring? I would imagin the touring is a fair bit longer than any of the Fords that had a cosworth engine.

at the moment, its a choice between going turbo, or cosmetics, such as refurbing alloys, buying a hardtop (colour coded) , and re-trimming the headrest on my vadars !!!

Hardtop = £600ish
Refurb = £200ish
Retrim = £100ish

Potential more power = 0

Buy some turbo parts :twisted: :P

I just want more power, forget the rest :mad:

Just a hardtop along would cost around £800-900, including re-paint etc. That's nearly all the 1k gone

It's never ending for me at the minute :evil:

After 6yrs of my sport being parked up and several months sat in a workshop, it's finally rolled out but it's cost me 3k in parts and Ive not settled the labour bill yet, they're still working on the figures 8O

I'd say keep it simple and make sure it's running right.

Bob is that for your M3 or the 2.8?

I know the M3 Benifits from it but what gains would a m20/m52 get from one?

Surley the s50 would be the better of the two to spend on. Is the S50 the 3.6 or 3.8 engine?

I've no idea, the s50 is the e36 M3 motor mate, so 3.2.
You're thinking of the s38 in the e34 m5's, more grunt but no vanos etc and heavier, not that the s50 is light!!!

Carbon bonnet and wings and maybe it might stretch to a sunroof panel as well!!
Or a jahreskarte. . . :D
Or a 2.8L stroker. . .
Or a head to back box BTB system. . .

I wouldn't do detailing, wheel refurbs, resprays etc. It'd get written off within the hour!
