Afternoon all,
Anybody interested in a BTB group buy? I have recently been speaking with Joe at BTB Exhausts about the possibility. He says he has done this for the zone before and is potentially willing to do it again.
Joe needs to get a feel for how much interest there would be, and what sort of product would be desired before committing to discount levels.
I have their stainless 6-branch manifold in my E30 335i, and they are now making me the rest of the custom system. Their work is exquisite, proven (full system gave 18bhp peak increase on a 325i M20) but not cheap. Their retail price list is here - http://www.racecar.co.uk/bmwexhausts/bmwe30exhausts.htm , note that these prices exclude VAT and delivery.
Let me know if anyone is potentially interested, and I will see what is possible.
Cheers all,
Martin.

Lots of bikes, the odd modern BMW, and now an 88 e30 335i Cab project with E32 running gear

You need to edit your URL to remove the ,

Interested to see what discount would be offered.

Thanks, edited the URL.
When I have an idea on possible numbers of people interested, I'll go back to Joe and see what he can offer. Joe agreed to give me a little over 10% off on my own £2k full system, so I would hope he would go further than that with a few common orders - it has got to be easier and cheaper for them to make 5 of the same manifold for example.

Joe told me he is prepared to include custom/one-off systems in the group buy, I'll ask him. He may need to see the car so he can tell how much modification is needed compared to their standard M20 manifold.mccarthy wrote:can they do them to fit round e36/z3 steering racks?
Thanks for all the replies guys. I shall wait until the end of the week for more responses, then go back to Joe and let you know what he is prepared to offer.
Martin.

Joe is working out some prices for us now, and so I should be able to let everyone know in a few days.
Martin.
He is working out a price for this too. He is likely to need to see an example car I suspect, but hopefully the difference between normal rack and Z3 rack should not be vast.Dave_M3 wrote:Ye should try get them to to make a 6 branch to clear the E36/E46 or Z3 rack while ye are doing a group buy...

Plenty people with E36 or Z3 racks on here fitted to 325s that would be more than happy to bring their car along for measuring.
The main difference is the Z3 racks pinion is at a steeper angle to the E30 one and also is alittle closer to the center of the car hence needing more clearance towards the block and also a little more vertical clearance.
If it worked out I'm sure there's alot of people that would be interested in a BTB3 6 branch
M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
I would be very interested in one that could bypass the uprated rack problem as I plan on doing both these mods. May start saving the pennies, but not sure if i'll be rich enough whilst this is going on
would need at least 2 months!

Uni is killing the project.
I would probably change my order to a "BTB3"Dave_M3 wrote:MJJ_ZX6RR wrote:Joe is working out some prices for us now, and so I should be able to let everyone know in a few days.

It would leave the car open for a rack swap at a later date.

OK guys, I dropped my car off at BTB yesterday for its full system so had a chance to talk to Joe about what he can offer us.
To get us the decent savings, he needs to make a batch of at least 5 identical manifolds. He is really only keen on doing the stainless manifolds as he strongly feels stainless is a much better material to make manifolds from.
Example prices for the M20 325i manifold and downpipes are £478.26 + VAT. That is a very handy 36% off, and that applies to both the 2 into 1 or the 2 into 2 with X-pipe.
Joe is keen on the idea of the M20 with Z3/e36 rack option too, but he needs to see a car first plus he'd need 5 to get those prices.
He says he will work out M30 335i prices if we can get the same batch of 5+ orders, but I think we can assume similar discount - thus they should be almost identical price to the M20. I paid full retail for mine by the way, not that I'm bitter
Thoughts?

Well ye already nearly have 5 for the BBTB 3 it seems...

Also know Da4x4turbo would be interested in one for his Sport as he wants to git a 330Ci clubsport rack too.

wooh wooh hold on. I'm interested, but only if it crosses with my payday
If we can get these paid for after 24th of this month, I will hold my money's aside for that day! (3 weeks away)...
But i will look into my money and I'll give an answer when you lot have the 5 "definates" and going forward, then I'll take my chance to jump onto the bandwagon for a BTB"3"!
Sorry if i sounded a bit hasty on my last post
BTW, can someone explain the difference in the "2 into 1" and "2 into 2" downpipes? Is that for an exhaust that has either a single pipe or twin pipes leading into it? I'm planning on coupling one of these with a scorpion exhaust. Which would I need in that case?
Finally, could this get cheaper again with 10 people interested? I'm sure a spot of advertising on the "E30 Chat" section might attract a few more customers!

@NayC, I am sure the payday thing will be no problem. Joe is happy to take deposit on a card, then balance when the fanimolds are ready - he was estimating about 3 weeks to make.
He needs to see a car with the Z3/e36 rack however before he can commit to prices on the "BTB3". Anyone with such a car anywhere near BTB (Small village outside Daventry, 10 miles or so from Banbury) who can let him see the differences? Might be good if he could see it whilst my car (standard rack) is still up there for comparison.
Martin.

£550 including vat is an absolute bargain imo. I heard Barry's sport (with a btb2) accelerating away the other day and the sound is just awesome. I'm trying to kerb the spending on my e30 at the moment and I'm trying to resist but I'm getting close to putting my name on that list.
One question: will the 'btb3' also fit cars with a standard rack? Or will this not be known until they get a car to look at?

As you said before, no one really knows yet.
Hopefully, the new manifold will keep that noise, keep the performance increase and accept both the steering racks. That would be a bonus as if they work, there will be no real need to choose between one or the other.
even if the performance gains drop slightly, it wouldn't bother me that much. We'll wait and see, but I'm doing my best to hold some moneys aside
EDIT: BTW, Martin (MJJ), any chance that when you speak to the guy at BTB can you ask him whether he can do the manifold for me (if I do go through with it) without VAT. Some companies in the UK deduct VAT for offshore places such as Jersey... if not, the total will come to £500+ and i'll have to pay the VAT, then pay 3.5% on entry to the island, then fill in forms to deduct the VAT. And the 3.5% GST will be more when the VAT is still added on
.
If not, no sweat. It would just mean less hastle and money my end though 1 simple question. But not all companies do or will... like the GPD on here
