hi all.
i have posted about this problem before on numerous occasions and all help was greatly received. but the problem still persists.
originally the engine was a b20b20 and the engine would out of the blue just stop dead as if i turned off the key. i changed every thing i could think of excluding fuel pump and checked the harness plug under the inlet, and all was working as it should. so i changed the engine to a b20b25 thinking this has to solve my dilemma, all was fine until about a day or so after fitting the engine i was driving around all happy with myself and the exact same symptom popped up again, so now all sensors, loom, inlet hoses, ecu have been changed for different ones but the problem is still there. i have removed the alarm thinking it may be a dodgy immobiliser but still its there. i have also linked the terminals at the fuel pump relay and left it to idle and it stopped again leaving the pump merrily pumping away, so its not the pump. its had every relay replaced regardless of what it does. also the engine side of the wiring loom has been changed when the engine was done. seriously guys i,m at my wits end with it there is nothing else i can change. i was thinking the ignition but the ignition lights stay on when the engine stops. the leads hav,nt been changed but the plugs, dizzy , rotor arm, and coil are all new. any idea would be great however small.
rant over.

You havn't mentioned the ICV or battery or the ignition barrel itself becoming worn, also does the car restart as normal straight after it has stalled?

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

icv was changed and battery seems good. car always turns over easily. could the ignition barrel be at fault, its just that the ignition lights stay on when it stalls. clutching at straws here though.

ther's only so many more things it can be. . . could you effectively hot wire it to eliminate the barrel from the circuit? does it restart as normal, not just turn over after stalling? have you physically checked petrol quantity supply, I'm thinking fuel filter or fuel pressure regulator perhaps. :(

both been changed for new items. the car restarts if left for a while. the car runs perfect most of the time, no spluttering no nothing just out of the blue it will stop. could it possibly be pulling air into the fuel system somewhere before the regulator.

So it doesn't restart well after stalling, what are the syptoms here? how long do you have to leave it? does it smell rich? oil in the water? water in the oil? overly pressurised header tank? I was thinking it's not getting enough petrol, have you disconnected the lines, powered the fuel pump, and sprayed into a bucket to make sure it's coming through as it should?

it does smell really rich to me. it will start but cuts out straight away. there seems to be no water oil mixing.

I think it's flooding. . . get to a garge and put it on the co2 (emissions) machine, it's adjustable on the AFM screw, 1% at idle is the aim for a standard car. . .
