good luck trev. i know the feeling. my recently installed engine won't turn on the tested starter motor at all, but will by hand, with a slightly tinny noise at a certain point
gearbox off?

Thinking around this,as there is no sign of the locking plate in the cam box it must have dropped out somehow. Now all that the thing does is to stop the rocker shafts from turning,we need to stop the rocker shafts from turning because oil passes through them to lubricate the rockers and the cam via holes in the shafts. So therefore, all that will have happened is that the oil, upon reaching the head, has had nowhere to go,and as this bloody thing has not yet run under it's own steam,it is unlikely that any damage has been caused.
So come on,Trev, chin up and get the turd running!

Sorry guys. I've been away for work (Tynegate like!) so not been on here.
As Si says, Sunday we are going to start from scratch on the top end.
1. ensure the plates not in there (which i'm confident it's not)
2. Get the shafts aligned (thats the rocker shafts not mine and Si's!!)
3. fit locking plate (lucky I have a spare)
4. Slacken every valve clearance and and reset them.
5. Reassemble cam cover
6. Start the sh1tter.
All ready for the Ace on Monday (if I'm not at a BBQ)

Good luck Trev, least you spotted the problem sharpish. Took me the best part of two
months to discover that the really annoying noise coming from my top end, was a missing
rocker arm clamp.

Spent all day over there and???? another wasted day
First up,
Fitted a spare rocker shaft retainer and reset all the valve clearances.
Re cleaned plugs due to fouling
Si turns up with the booster pack, Spin it over? No luck.
Then something strange happened, The starter motor started to burn out and get hot! VERY hot. and the battery was starting to fail and the battery wouldn't even take a jump of Si's 'pina.
So next up we change the starter motor....f*ck doing one of those for a laugh! On removing it we found the top bearing knackered (brass or bronze fillings in there) and the starter felt rough to turn. Fitted another starter motor and it span over like a banshee again. without even a jump. So it seems the starter was starting to seize.
But still f*ck all luck!!!! It still, to me, sounds like it's popping back through the inlet. So thinking the worse I decided to bite the bullet and do a compression test. I may after all bent a valve etc. Well I was amazed.
190psi equal across ALL 6 cylinders. We couldn't believe it so did the same test on Si's and got slightly fluctuating results across the 6 but all well withing acceptable standards and 3 of his were up to 200psi. My gauge maybe a little optimistic but thats irrelevant. It proves we have equal compression across the bores and my figures are in a similar ball park to a running 2.7!.
So we are well and truly stumped!!!!! It's back in hiding with it's cover and I'm afraid i feel thats where it's going to stay! For some time!!!!!

It's not those two plugs. We've tried that. It is firing which means it's at least seeing a crank position sensor.cliff_costa wrote:fited my 2.7 about a munth ago and we cood not get it started for about 4 owers ternd out to be the cranke posishon sensa and i think the oil preshor switch. A couple of times today it's really fired well. I wouldn't say it was close to catching (fire maybe with the starter motor!!) but it definately fired good and proper.

Oh ricey my man!!!! I really have come to the end of my tether with it. The main poblem is that it's about 20 miles away which means i have to load a load of tools into the car and 9 times out of ten I forget something. today it was the torx set!! A big help when you're doing the starter motor!ricey46 wrote:Come on Trev, don't lose heart with it, keep going, it'll pay off in the end
Si's just rung with another theory. When the injectors were cleaned they stated that if they stood for a while they may stick? If so they'd take them back and re clean them. Well they've stood for about 4 months I would think.
So we may try the fuel rail out of the c2.5 breaker just to rule it out at least.

To be honest I'm having a week away from it. I'm bored with it all to be honest. Talking to Pacerpete, AndyP and a couple of others and they were scratching their heads as well.
Just need a break from it.

My injectors stood for months but were fine when i got around to using them, Spin it over and then take the plugs out. If there wet then you know its fueling and is a lot easier than pulling the fuel rail.
I've not read the whole thread but assuming your using a standard air flow meter stick your finger in it and hold the flap open while trying to start it.
If that don't work then i'd say get the meter on it and check all the loom wires for continuity to the ECU

I'm off to try and fit a pair of wishbones, sort of retro fit power steering (mine had it originally),new brakes and bushes etc,if all goes Pete Tong, lets have ourselves a "crash",like for like sort, much more legal than petrol and a match

Not seen it for three weeks now. Kinda lost a bit of interest plus I've been away for the last 2 weekends.
to be honest, I'm just too busy with other things at the moment. I'll have to get my arse in gear on it.

Come on Trev, Don't let the side down.
I'm getting to the end of my tether with my turd because of these wheels but I'm still trying! BadDave took the wheel with him back to Scotland to see if it can be sorted.
If I could help, I would mate. Sadly I'm just a tiny bit too retarded to be any use.
