since i hav rebuilt my cyilinder head i have noticed on start up a lot of grey smoke comes out, doesn't happen all the time. also iv been told that it lets out blue smoke when i give it some. i had replaced all the stem seals with the rebuild so i think it cant be them. the oil has been changed to using granville 10/40 semi-synthetic, although the euro car parts sales man did recommend 15/40 out of the granville hand book. but haynes recommends 10/40 so i went for that. this could possibly be the cause. or another problem could lie with the car overfueling as there is a very lean smell and i hav already changed the blue temp sensor. could some one giv us a clue.

Is it a high milage engine ?
Do a compression test.
Could be worn piston rings or a broken one.
When you did the stem seals did you protect the end of the stem with tape or the caps that somtimes come with the set.
If you didn't you may have split some of the new seals.
The only other thing i can think of is the gasket is not sitting correctly.
You did use a new one
If its lean screw the adjuster on the air flow meter down one turn at a time to get it to run richer (It's best if you count how many turns untill it hits the bottom and then you know where it was set and use that as the default setting)
