Hi folks,

Well last night i had this 316 delivered, soon filled the void left by my cab which was collected earlier in the day and went off to Ireland.

These pics are of the car before i've touched it, it is covered in white stuff that does come off but its going to need a real good polish to shift it but its not very noticeable in the pics due to the cars colour. The body does need some work, there are plenty of little dings a scrape all over the car, looks like its been used for the school run as well looking at how many crayons, pencils and bits of lego i've found in there, don't think the car has been cleaned at all for years.

The bonus though is that there is no sunroof to worry about and very little evidence of anything brown and crusty (so far).

It's pretty much going to end up being a Tech-1 Sport rep, i have a donor car with some great parts but its just a rusty shell and a moredoor.

Will get some more pics up of what i've been up to today once i've sorted some dinner .

Gaz, i'm not one for polishing hence why i couldn't be bothered doing it today. The cab went as i just didn't really find it fun enough to drive to warrant having it for all the non sunny days, plus space is always an issue.

Have you got an M20B25 to go in then? Are you keeping it Polaris Silver? What interior you got going in then?

Well after a pathetic attempt at cleaning the car earlier and quickly realising the dirt wasn't going to shift easily i got bored and set about the interior. Had no intention of keeping the blue comfort interior, plus i also wanted to rust hunt and see what was lurking under the carpet in the footwells.

Drivers footwell;


Throttle pedal mount, broke the pedal when i removed it like a knob, still not been able to get it out;


Rear drivers side footwell;

Eventually after things were looking too good to be true i found this lurking deep deep down in the sill on the passenger side between the rear arch and B pillar;


Yes that is as bad as it get for rust in the cabin, that bit in the sill and a scabby throttle pedal mount, happy days!!!

Result mate. Get the bodywork minty then lower it on some nice 8" BBS RM's or some banded steels

I do have some wheels being refurbed shortly that you might like, not sure though.

What wheel you got Dan? Love the look of banded steelies and any BBS splits, there are actually a lot of wheels i'd quite fancy.

I've already but it some these but the rims on a couple need re-polishing and the typres have loads of tread but are cracked and so buggered

It's got 76k on the clock, nothing to back it up though.

The car will be staying the same colour, just trying to get hold of a rear bumper though for the kit, thats probably going to be one of the last things on the list to do though.

This is the donor car,


Nice healthy M20B25 and the following;
one of Ants chips not yet fitted
BTB 6 branch manifold
Scorpion exhaust
B8 Bilsteins on the front and B6s on the rear on KW 35mm springs.
Eibach ARBs
Rogue Engineering top mounts, still in the bag
Black Diamond drilled and grooved discs all round
Black Diamond pads all round
Black Diamond braided brake lines

All of the above are approx 10 months old and done no more than a few hundred miles.

For the interior i just want a nice period sport cloth seats.

Rather a lot of other things i'd like to do as well but time and money will tell.

Yea there's quite a lot of scabs all over it and then the previous owner put the jact though the floor, hence how i came upon it

Was going to put it back on the road while i looked for a suitbale shell but then this came up and i just felt i could let it pass as i really wanted a non sunroof car.

He jacked it on the square just behind the front wheel that all those people who know no better assume is a jacking point.

The pictures really don't show up all the scratches and dents though, should all be easily sorted overtime.

Seen a few more doors lately and they do look cool! Can;t beat a 2 door though!

Well didn't get anything done today after lots of faffing about and going to the see about getting the little bits of rust sorted. Also went down to see Spadge and get some early window regulators, just need some wiring looms now as the ones in the donor look to be somekind of after market thing looking at the switches.

Not even a hint of rust around the number plate lights


Found a little bit of rust at the back of the battery tray though, nothing major and hopefully i'll have the dash out tomorrow to see if its come through the bulkhead but pretty sure it hasn't;

i'm very much liking the lack of rust the best ive seen on here other tha ful resto - am guessing the crappy sunroof design is the cause of many a problem

The sunroof only gives you problems if the seals perish and water runs in and then rusts the roof and sunroof panel, i guess they may also give you problems else where due to the drains but i'm not sure.

It was advertised on the zone and the seller knew what they had so it wasn't the cheapest but will certainly pay for its self with the fact it needs hardly any welding work.

Had another play with the car today, plan was originally to give it a realy good t-cut to get all the crap off the paint but was far to hot to do that, the t-cut was going off as soon as it went on the paint. Think i might get some buffer pads and machine the paint to make life easier on the arms, have though about claying it but i think the dirt is too baked on.

Gave the engine bay a quick once over and removed the alarm siren and associated wiring from teh engine bay as well, only found a couple of little scabs of rust on the chassis rails that i'd already seen.




Took the dash out today as well as it had a crack in it.


Had a look at the battery tray inside the car and the rust has started to come through a little so i think it looks like this will need chopping out.


As things look i think(hope) that is all the rust found unless any nasties turn up once the engine is out. Aim is to get that out next week and then give the engine bay a thorough clean and rub down and paint where necessary, need the engine gone ASAP after removal, anyone want it? Also going to finish off removing the alarm and immobiliser and carry on the hunt for an interior and rear bumper.
