Ive just fitted some recaro reclining bucket seats from a Evo 7 but they came with no seat belts is it likely that the evo reciver would suit the e30 plug??

The only other way i could do it is by fitting harnesses but were can i pick up on for the over sholder straps??? is there any way of doing it and leaving the back seat in? i know i wounldnt be able to carry passengers anyway but would like to keep the back seat anyway, does anyone make a buckle to fit on the lap belt bit of a rear seat? sort of inertia real harnesses?

Cheers Matt

First remove the rear bench, then replace the 4 bolts holding the seatbelts in place with 4 m10 eye bolts, clip harnesses to eyebolts, hang the harnesses around the parcel shelf/rearheadrests area and refit the rear bench (with much force).

Just make sure the clip-in attachments are as straight as posssiblewith the line of the belts.

bucket seat + harness = Cage or at least rear half cage with harness bars IMHO. But each to their own.

Matt, you wouldn't want to fit a harness with that type of seat anyway since it has a pivot (adjustable backrest). In the event of an accident the downwards force of the shoulder belts has a tendency to shear the pivot and the backrest falls over backwards.

Also, as Uwe said, not a good idea to fit a harness unless you have a cage. If you were ever to roll the car the roof could cave in on your head while the harness holds your body in place, like a sitting duck  . Not a nice position to be in.

Nice seat BTW.

not to mention the fact that a not 100% correctly adjusted/worn 4 point belt is outperformed buy the factory 3 points belt any day....
but this sort of discussion has been on here countless of times.
just another point to add, what will your insurer have to say to this?

What would an insaurer say about what? Harnesses or different seats?

Ill tell them obviously, insurance is due end of the month, got a 1k quote sofar, not bad with all mods declared up to 300bhp at 21 with 3points for white line offence i didnt think.

As the car is now the evo seats are held down to some spacer plates and then to the floor all with 12.9 HT allen bolts and with the E30 seatbelt buckel attached to the evo belt buckel pick up with the bmw 10.2HT bolt.

harness is not the OEM seat belt and EVO seat is not the OEM seat either. I am sure the insurer wants to know about it.

I understand i need to inform them and fully intend to, dont think i'am trying to do mods and then not tell the insurer that just asking for trouble, ive always declared all the mods and paid the price.

As said the harnesses are not being fitted now as ive used the origonal e30 seat belt reciever on the evo seat no probs all in its correct mounting possition/holes so its as safe as it ever was.

The seats could go in an E30 as there the same as the aftermarket ones anyone could buy from recaro and fit to any car with the correct subframes or on welded in mounts.

ive made some brackets to adapt the evo runners and probably over engineered the whole thing as i what to know its safe and up to the job both for me and my passenger.

Thanks, there so much more comfortable than the e30 ones. i always found the e30 ones abit lacking in upper support especialy if you are taller.

Another thing you can see in this picture is that the slot holes for the harness are just cosmetic in this type of seats. (noticed this with my Recaro SRD's as well)

They are too small to aaccept a proper harness and they are too HIGH! I had the SRD as a passenger seat and whith passenger shorter than 6ft the shoulder belt wouldn't sit on their shoulders.
So just imagine what happens when you roll the car with a 2inch gap between your shoulders and the belts.

I think you made the right decision to use the 3 point belts
