alright people, over the last few months i have been thinking about modifying the bulkhead & mounting my m50 engine with a e36 sump behind the crossmember to improve weight distrubution.
has anyone done this before?

I was looking into this when playing with the S50 hanging on the lift. You need to modify more than the bulk head IMHO, the E36 subframe will move the engine back 4-5inches right into the heater box compartment. Nothing is impossible but I wonder if you would still be able to remove the rocker cover when the engine is in place.
Next thing to fabricate would be the shifter linkage. Shorten prop (no problem really) and maybe clear a little bit of metal for the gear box bell housing. custom exhaust as well (not a problem either jst a bit chopped out of the straight centre section)

....maybe in a future build of mine I takle it.

hi uwe, does the e36 crossmember bolt straight on?
i was thinking of using the e36 sump and e34 engine mounting arms, although this might put the engine too far into the cabin.

E36 crossmember has a thicker dowel and won't fit into E30 chassis rails. Haven't measured hole distance but the only visible difference to the E30 frame is the engine mount tabs are located BEHIND the main beam.
