I'm looking into fitting a slim-line PS2 into my cabby (council i know :P ).

Has anyone done this before? Basically looking for info on how to wire up a power supply to it and possible mounting places.

TIA
Imy

you'll need a power invertor mate, readily available from most places like halfords.. you can either use you lighter socket or hard wire it into a ignition live.. best place to leave the ps2 will probably be under the seat so easy access to change games and that way you can use the infra red controls !! :D

If i wired it up to the battery, would that work (earth and live)?

I was going to get someone to do it for me, but he wanted over £100 :o

Orrrrrrrrrrr...

Connect directly to the battery via a relay to avoid any possible power dips. :)

Imy,

I had mine installed in the boot of my 2 door with the controller wirers through the ski hatch. I hid the invertor under the falsefloor which is wired into the battery in the boot.
Not too difficult at all and certainly not worth £100 of labour.

^^^ Really like that Daryll, looks great

So if i connect the inverter to the cigarette lighter and then connect it to the PS2, it should all work?

Yes it will work. Not hard at all. Mine had it all in it when I bought it. The inverter and PS2 were under the passenger seat. Inverter cables had been run down the centre console from the cigarette lighter, not plug into the ciggy lighter plug it was conected to the wiring for it. Very simply job.

I've got an invertor (and do ice installs), it's brand new and you're welcome to it for £20? (They're normally around £40 iirc), and if you're going dc'09 I'll happily fit and wire it all up for you?

No worries, I'll bring it along anyways just in case. Doesn't take long to fit (and I don't want anything for it other than the £20 it owes me), so if you aint got it done before dc'09 then I can do it in that hour between us parking up & the show opening as it only should take 20 minutes to fit if that!

Another quick question i just thought of, what is the best way to connect up 2 headrest screens to the PS2? Each headrest screen has 3 av audio leads (red, white, yellow).

You need to get a splitter to split the signal... Where are you routing the sound to?

On my build I wired the red & white into the back of my head unit so sound was played through the aux input over my sound sytem, and bought a signal splitting cable to split the single yellow cable from the ps2 to be fed into the 2 screens in the car

Basically, i'm going to have a dvd headunit (with flip up screen) at the front. Then 2 headrest screens connected up to the PS2.

What i wanted to do is, just connect the PS2 to the headrest screens as they have built in speakers, is this possible?

Yeah, bit more complicated, but fundamentally the same, you need to split for each channel the sound (red & white) and the video (yellow).

Can send you a diagram to make it easier to follow if you like?

That is unless you have an "input" and "output" ports on each headrest screen?

Do you have a make & model number for the screens?

Where's the input socket on these? Is it on the front there or do you remove the screen?

OK, well my paint skills are proving near impossible on this phone....

Basically you need a set of "Y" splitters....

One for the Yellow Video lead ( male into female) to split the video into 2 male connectors for each screen, and likewise for the sound (red & white)...

Something along the lines of this: http://www.thetwistergroup.com/store/im ... EAH201.JPG

Just so you can picture what kind of cable I'm banging on about

I understand now :) I'm going to need some pretty long wires then.

I've asked the seller of the screens to email me some pictures of the connections, give us a clearer idea :thumb:

Well I'll raid my toolbox Imy, I might have a few spare cables lying about from some old jobs/builds... Well I will when I'm back in Shrops as I'm in Windsor at the moment. I might even have some of those splitters cables, will let you know on Wednesday evening when I'm back.

Like I said, worse comes to worse I can either do it for at DC'09 or come up to you if you still having no joy. Be a pleasure to help out a fellow zoner!

imy.... i wouldnt bother with a inverter. fitted loads of these in mates cars etc and mine. the ps2 SLIMLINE is slim because sony took out the big power block from inside and put it on the lead. thats the ac adapter with 8.5v on it. just cut the lead so you have the little jack plug that goes into the ps2. (make sure you leave ample lead though). then strip back the wire. there will be a inner and outer core.. the inner core is positive and the outer is the negative. i usally connect via a switch rather than ingnition live. 12volt in to these are fine and ive never had a problem yet. much quicker and less wires than fitting inverters. hlh.

clive.
