hey guys your help at this moment of this would be very much appreciated, just put my engine back in my 325 i cabriolet, tried to start it but sounds like the starter motor doesnt want to turn, makes a click noise,so i tried putting a cable on the live of the starter motor and then on the + of the battery, and started straight away,WHAT THE HELL COULD BE THE PROBLEM?????????????

Sounds like a relay, however the one I'm thinking of will stop the fuel inj working too. You need Brian!

if all you hear is a clicking, listen if it's clicking at the starter solenoid(on the starter) then give the starter a gentle but persuasive wack with a hammer and if it starts then your starter's broke or put a test light on the small wire and get someone to turn the key, and if it lights up, starters broke if not, relay, ign switch or worse WIRING. Hope it helps.

I'm having the same problems dude, all the dash lights up , turn the key and "click" ! To be honest i've tapped the starter motor with a bar and it fired up first time, turned the engine off, tapped it again and no start. Hit the bugger even harder and it started again. Now i cant get it to start at all.
Today i took off the starter motor(fiddley as fook) and stripped the solenoid, cleaned and greased it, put it back on and guess what.................turned the ignition and "click" no start.
My battery is on charge at the mo' and ive got a replacemnt starter being delivered asap.
So i'll let you know how i get on tomorrow afternoon after ive tried the battery thing .
If the car has been left standing for a while the bat' may have drained a little and may not have enough power to engauge the thing that drives the thingy to get your car started lol. hence mine being on charge tonite.
