Hi all,

Has anyone heard of this conversion or know of anyone attempting to do it?

Does it have any rear wheel drive applications or a known rear wheel drive gearbox pairing?

It sounds to me like the ideal engine as there are hundreds of them out there, not to mention the tuning possibilities! :D

I also seem to remeber someone on here buying a volvo T5 lump for thier E30...

Hmmm, VW or Audi engine? Never heard of this one personally. I'm not aware of any gearboxes that would be standard fit, so I think there'd be a bit of work involved there. I have a Toyota 3SGTE Celica motor in mine (threw off the Toyota CT12 turbo in favour of a Garrett GT3267) for which they're are a number of easy-fit RWD gear boxes out there. Any engine that has the exhaust down the left side of the the engine is a good start in my opinion, as the exhaust doesn't foul the steering (on a RHD car), so keep this in mind when choosing an engine.

I was under the impression that the vw and audi lumps were essentially the same?

Very good point about the exhaust though...

Yes, I think they are basically the same (as each other). Wasn't aware that I had implied they were different? The only issue I see is with regard to the gearbox, but I am sure someone out there has found a box that will fit with minimal modifications. Nothing's impossible these days.

wonder if you could use the 4x4 setup but not use the front driveshafts as in the skoda octavia 4x4, audis and others? Had my old 4x4 octavia running a 20vt up to 300bhp fairly easily!

The Zone Wiki here http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... 30_Engines hints that an Alfa V6 and Nissan SR20DET conversion are possible, but provides no information. I would think that the Nissan SR20DET conversion is quite similar to the Toyota 3SGTE conversion.

below is an SR20DET transplanted into Kyle Bingham's 1970 MGB-GT, see here: http://www.britishv8.org/MG/KyleBingham.htm

You can bet this goes like stink! I doubt it would be that difficult to do something similar on an E30 (sorry, I know is not an audi or VW, so a bit off topic).

You can buy the bellhousing adaptor plates to take a ford type 9 box, it a common swap in europe for seven type kit cars.

SR20DET is as easy to tune plus easy to get a box from a 180/200sx and the turbo is on the passenger side
