I want to replace the original speakers on my '97 328 Touring . It has the 'professional hi-fi' system with a tweeter and midrange in the front doors , a bass speaker in the footwell , and 4 speakers in the roof at the rear .
The system in principle is fine , but a couple of the speakers are shot and I want to try and keep the car as original as possible , using standard size speakers to replace the ones that are knackered .
So far I've only found BSW who are am American firm advertising in 'Bimmer' magazine who make direct upgraded replacements . But I don't know anything about the company etc and they're obviously too far away to just 'pop in' .
Does anyone know of a UK (or Europeene) company that do replacements for the E36 nowadays , preferably not costing an arm and a leg !?
Cheers , Chris

Any idea what size each of the speakers are??
You need to find out sizes and you'll be able to pick from hundreds of replacements then!!
I'm assuming they are some kind of three way components in the front? Tweet/Mid/Bass on each side??
Not familiar with the E36 sound systems, but it sounds like it could be good with the right speakers in place!!!

Normally it's a very good system , for someone who isn't a complete hi-fi buff and wants the ''real'' thing .
You're right that they're 3-way in the front , so need to be matched properly .
I've the system fitted in my last 3 E36's and it works well , is clear , but the amp isn't that strong , so some people turn it up too much with the 'loudness' and so extra bass blows the speakers .
To replace the front with BMW main dealer is around £600 and I don't wanna spend that much on 'standard' speakers , hence the reason I'm trying to find a decent alternative .

If you have any local car audio places over there, they should be able to sort you out!!
Again, need to know the sizes of the cones, but there are thousands of 3-way component sets you can buy!!
Just as an example: CLICKY
£136 upwards and i'm sure you could find cheaper if you really want to!!
Second hand from ebay?? I've had decent ones for £30!!!!

There are really only 3 places here sell car hi-fi stuff , and just one is a specialist in in-car audio (as opposed to all audio, home etc)
I've investigated the usual car speaker manufacturers common to europe Pioneer/JBL/Kenwood etc , but non of these big companies do replacements for 'older' cars .
But I must admit I didn't think of E-bay etc , so I'll check that out .
Cheers , Chris

All the brands do replacements for 'older' cars!! You just need to know the sizes!!
They won't ever say what cars they will fit, that is up to you to find out!!
Try asking on some E36 forums, or the talk audio forum - loads of experts on there!!
How about google or wikipedia?? You'll find the info somwhere!!
