Just found this on Ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 7989059025

This potentially could cure the dreaded wheel wobbles on the Alpina Replicas...

Worth pursuing..

MORE THAN LIKELY ITS BECAUSE YOUR WHEELS ARE NOT LOCATED CORRECTLY ON THE HUB! EITHER YOU HAVE THE WRONG SIZE RING OR THEY ARE MISSING COMPLETLY!

i think i have this problem

Most alloy wheel shops do them for about a tenner, but you will need to know what alloy you have, there is a little book with all the diameters in it.

Good work Giles

I will be making enquiries here

Anyone else fitted these or similar and it has cured the dreaded wobble?

I already have some green plastic rings on mine and they obviously aren't doing the job! Had the wheels balanced, most of my front end is new so this must be the final area for improvement before i go back to 15's

When I was looking at getting these made up, I thought about using metal, but the issue is that you will get electrolytic corrosion between differing metals, and the alloy, the spigot and the hub are all different. You could end up with the alloy corroding itself to the hub. The plastic ones should be ok provided they are made from a non deformable plastic, Delrin or glass reinforced nylon would be ok for spigots as they are very strong.

These things (IMO) are as useles as a chocolate fire guard, you need alloy ones as they don't have any give in them when they have the weight of the wheel on them just before you do them up. Its this give that means the wheel is a fraction off centre when you do the studs up.

The way i've always seen it is the centre of the hub takes the weight of the car not the bolts, their just designed to hold the wheel flat against the hub.

If you don't have the correct size centre on the wheel, every time you hit a pothole the weight of the car is acting like a bolt cutter by exerting a sidewards force on the bolt's.

And when cornering at speed thats about 3/4 of the weight of the car on one wheel 8O

I think i'll stick with my 15' BBS rather than spend a fortune on buying a set of wobbeling deathtrap's

I dunno what those are made from, and try finding someone who does, but I am 100% sure that if they were made from the right plastic you wouldn't have any problems. There are some seriously deformation resistant polymers out there. Aluminium has a tensile strength of 90MPa (Mega Pascals) Delrin is 70MPa... so it ain't that weak. Only problem with Delrin is it's low deformation temperature, only 120C..

Inner is 57.1mm, to measure the outer you need to either find out exactly what wheel you have and get them to look it up in the little book or you can measure it with a set of vernier calipers.

Dazleeds, give John a call, tell him your wheels I bet he'll know their size. He seems a good bloke who knows what he's on about.
