Just wondering if anyone has come out with a design for 12" subs to sit under the roof space in the cab boot.
I have an isobaric box with 12" subs in as a push/pull, but u can imagine the size of the ported box.
No room left in the boot.
So lets hear who's got what and what sound levels you have

Nope, need it for 12" only. You saw the space, or lack of it in the boot, need a more viable space saving design

You will have great difficulty fitting 12" subs under the roof compartment, i measured only 10/11 inches height in mine

I, you're right there, but if the box was to come out a couple of inches and shaped to the to the boot space, might work.

I see what you mean, like a prism shaped box (MrLee30 has one fitted in his but only one 12" sub).
It would work, just need to get the right angle

as you have found the speaker cannot stand up, so angle it. bass (or really low frequency waves) is omnidirectional so it doen not matter which way the speaker faces. the box below is 3cubic foot internal, which is a lot, i also have a port whcih fires to the side you cannot see, if you need more then i reckon another 1 cuft coudl be found by making the box run the entire available width of the boot. it would be easy to fit 2 x 12inch even in my box as you see.
tips if you want to build a box like this:
1. ensure the angle and speaker cut out hole does not result in the magnet hitting the bottom of the box (my first design was scrap due to this!!)
2. dont forget the struts and boot hinges when measureing!
3. my box is wedged into the space, but can easliy come out dfor spare tyre access
4. if you want a push pull system then consider the space required on the outsiude of the box if you fit one speaker facing inwards, of simply fit both speakers facing out and wire one in antiphase.

i will be attempting this soon. will be running 1 10" sub, 2 amps and components in the car.
i might go down the route of running a car pc too and fabricate a screen into the dash.

dude, it seems like our plans are very similar for the e30's. will be cool to see what both end articles look like.ImysE30 wrote:I'm putting a screen into the space just above the front ashtray, perfect fit

Me lee,
Your design look good, but can you tell me what frequencies the box is hitting, and is there any distortion when you turn up the bass.
Atm, my bass is set to Zero, and with the design of the box, is shaking the car.

cant remeber as i used the design that came with the speaker, the port is 13inches long a 4 inches in diameter which i seem to remember resonantes at 40Hz, which is good for major notes as all the 40Hz harmonics include all the notes - good for normal music as few people go for songs in minor keys these days!!
the speaker claims 20Hz but that is no good if your box is tuned for 40Hz, IIRC with mine being such a big box the lower level is down to 30Hz, which means a realistic 30/40Hz but you suffer by loosing up high so maybe upto 800Hz rings a bell, this is a bit of a disadvantage in a cab as there is no place to put decent sized midrange speakers, so my set up is too bass heavy for some music, but i am a reggae person so i like slow low bass and this set up suits very well, dance music does not work at all if the bass is punchy, in fact it sometimes sounds like the bass it slow for the music with punchy dance beats, for this you need a sealed enclosure. As for sound it sounds very good with the limitations i mention above.
your push pull system also works well with punchy music, but also gives you volume levels unobtainable with a single speaker, it woudl not work with my music so well.
As for shaking the car...it can do that, but i like the seat vibrating lows it produces, very satisfying at the lights!!
hope that helps ya!!
