hi,
i got a 325 donor car with everything on it, and im now looking to buy another e30 to transfer the parts into. just wondering if transfering the parts from the 325 to a 316,318,318is or 320 whether i will need to get new parts or whether everything will fit. im sure that the 325 engine will go into the 320 with minimal modifications. will be doing all the work myself.

cheers.

It's basically the same to which body you swap the engine and axles with all the brakes etc because there's no sense whatsoever to swap "big" engine to car which has drum brakes etc..

Easiest choice would be 318iS or 325i so you'd need to swap only the engine bay thingies.

That's not true, all e30 diffs are interchangeable. I recently replaced the small case diff with a medium case lsd.

I put a b25 into my 320 about a year ago, it's a very straightforward swap. It was my first engine swap and I encountered nothing that was too tricky.

Yes but driveshafts are different on typ168 and typ188 differentials..

Yes it will but why you're swapping the parts to another car anyways? Is the donor - E30 wrecked, or.. ?

You need to swap also the front struts and rear thingies if you swap it all to something else than M-tech or 318iS.

the rust is to severe to sort out and fix. so im gonna take the full interior out and engine as well as wheels. so im gonna try and find another e30 with a perfect shell, not bothered about the interior or the engine. just want a good shell :D

Yes but driveshafts are different on typ168 and typ188 differentials..
If they are then they are also interchangeable, the width differance between small and medium case diff's is accounted for by the use of different output flanges

Apart from minor brackets and the like, all things are interchangeable in all E30s!
All cabs and tourings already have the uprated suspension and brake set up of the 325 saloon as standard, and the 325 touring has better again.
Trip computer (I presume you mean the OBC, in place of an analogue clock) is another easy job - just two self contained wiring looms and a few bits to swap over.

It it's E36 then it's not as plug'n'play. Easily doable, though. All you need to know about that swap is listed here.

If your swapping into a 320 i, then its all ok.
But as per Brians sticky, if your going to swap it into a 316/8, then best to read his sticky on the wiring side of things. :P

Put the cars side by side, unbolt everything off your new shell and fit everything from 325 shell.

320 will make life easier. 318 for insurance and the 316s ive seen are all dogs bar 1 black one recently

bigm3jo-he should get an m3 when he has the money but i bet dizzle aint going to make it go anywhere fast is it, or is that some ghetto word for a product you put in there???

Dizzle is da partz geez aint that obvers? i would recoment getting a shik cam in dat engine, perofrmance chip, motorbike spark plugz, 5 branch manifold and a scorpion exaust and you got yourself atleast 230 - 240 bhp standard m8.
make sure you get LDS to stop those wheels spinning though.
