Standard E34s don't like big wheels and will tramline everywhere unless you're doing some serious suspension mods.

You'll need spigot rings if they're E39 fit as the title would suggest.

On some roads I can let go of the steering wheel and the car will turn the bends on its own!

I have the same issue - I have 17 inch om my E34 with 235 for the front and 245 for the rear and I need to keep focus all the time on the wheel because it have to much grip and like what DanThe says, it starts to turn bends on its own.

Tightening up the column adjusting nut on mine made a difference, the big 32mm nut on the column under the dash, just whack it up as much as you can, you wont be able to adjust the column but it will eliminate any slack from this department

Adjusting the steering box made the most difference to mine! Does still tramline on the 17"s though. Good luck with 18"s!

I've driven 100's of e34's and they all drive crap on anything over a 16" rim. They all tramllne, wander and feel skitish. The best i drove was a car with 54k up and a perfect steering box. On 17's it had proper quality Michelins and had all new bushes and joints. And the car felt okay but still a but naughty. Any slack in the steering box aor a sloopy joint or two (remember the 34 has a good number of them) and it'll feel terrible.
E39's can be similar. Mines on 17's and it's sort of okay. But my mates 523 on boggo 15" alloys feels nicer.

i think with the e34 its down to offset as it makes a huge difference i had contours on my last sport and they were et13 drove terrible but looked nice with a fat lip! also tried a set of m parras et 20 allround and the car was fine on them so i think if you keep to 235 and no higher with correct ofset you can get away with it. although if the steering box really is dead 18's will expose every weakness in it!

Agree totally,i have had both cars and the E39 was a much nicer car with 16" wheels fitted than 17" wheels!B7 wrote:I've driven 100's of e34's and they all drive crap on anything over a 16" rim. Unless the E34 you are talking about is perfect in the suspension department i would stick with 16" max, they tramline on anything other than perfect roads.
