I'm trying to sort the horrible pedal feel I have at the moment where the brake pedal goes down a bit, then there is resistance, then a clunk and it moves again.

I have just removed the master cylinder from the servo and there is no spacer present (i assumed incorrectly that the previous owner of this kit had sorted it) but that would be too much to expect.

So, what's the deal with the spacer needed when using the clio bosch servo?

Do I just put a bit of a bolt thread into the recess in the master cylinder? If so, how long a bit of bolt or other metal do I have to put in there?

cheers

10mm bolt cut down, around 20mm but you need to measure to be sure

I would double check the inside the servo the diaphram is sitting properly and not broken by what you describe

"brake pedal goes down a bit, then there is resistance, then a clunk and it moves again. "

The spacer could be anything from 15-23mm also there is a lot of adjustment available in the linkages and pedals themselves to get it to feel right and so the pedals look level or to your taste as well.

I've got exactly the same problem with my Clio servo . It goes a short way then goes further with a twang noise! I read somewhere else that if servos are stood for a while they can get dry of lubricant on that plastic piston part. I took the master cylinder off to confirm it was the servo and it was. I tried some grease on it and it made no difference. Mine is better though when you start the engine. I'm off to the scrapper next week to rob another one, shame cos they are a t#at to get off the Clio! My spacer is 20mm and I countersunk the end.

I am still experimenting with my setup,I currently have a 20mm spacer and I am playing with the relay rod ajustment at the moment.
I decided on 20mm as that is the difference between the rod position in relation to the servo casing front edge, comparing my original servo to the clio item.I am mostly suspisious of the relay rod ajustment because installing this was part of the LHD/RHD conversion and I have had no help in determining just how to ajust to get it right!
Bumhole....Mr Mole at The Old Wood Skellingthorpe supplied my servo,he has a shop full of bits, saves you scambling round in the mud and filth elsewhere and you pay the same!

Had a further fiddle with my relay rod this afternoon. Then popped round to the supermarket to collect some gin.I had now over-ajusted the bloody thing and the trip home was accompanied by the smell of frying pads....backed the rod off four half turns...one day I will get it right :D
