Clearly there are some regional differences. Here in North Yorkshire we have no speed cameras and I can't think of any 50mph limits outside of built up areas either. We have 40s and 30s in villages but once you get outside them its back to NSL.djk wrote:Storm in a teacup. This is just a continuing policy of reducing speed limits on rural roads, something that has been going on regularly for the last 10 or so years anyway. All that would happen if this is blocked is that the same roads would have their limits reduced to 50, but we'd all have to fork out for the necessary signage, rather than keeping the present signage and changing what it means. It's not something to get worked up about - and if it does pee pee you off, blame the wreckless teenagers putting their cars through hedges that have contributed to the statistical evidence that makes the policy of reducing speed limits on said roads a political necessity.fuzzy wrote:this makes it sound like its a foregone conclusion with the roads minister apparently defending the plan. so it must be true. and its not even from a tabloid.

In my experience, Somerset is crammed with random speed limits and huge forests of signs - they seem to take the opposite approach down there.
