coolent temp sensor

just bought 1991 525 to fit m50 into my e30 .only fault with 525 is dash displaying coolant level low.checked rad and levels fine .is there a water level sensor fitted to this vehicle

It has a coolant level sensor underneath the coolant tank on the side of the radiator.
E30 rads which have the combined tank also have the boss for this sensor present, but unused.
The sensor gives the same electrical signal as an E30 one, but the sensor is different as it works the other way up. It's also a slightly different length.
