Wonder if someone knows the answer. Our 325 has the battery installed in the boot, looks like it was like that from the factory rather than installed later.

At some stage there must have been something securing the battery but this has gone awol.

So what does secure the battery in?
and will it pass scrutineering with it using the OEM bracket/strap/whatever?

it's a tong metal pole with threads on the bottom and a hex head on the top plus a battery hold down plate (any BMW will have this if it's not rusted to the battery tray!)

You can easily create a bracket for track/racing by using two lengths of threaded bar and some nyloc nuts... you just need a plate to go across the battery and stick some foam under it to stop it sliding on teh top of the battery. The standard BMW one is pants!

that'll be the one!! Although I would've put it across the other way mate, as if it slips in a crash that strap could easily short your battery terminals, especially that positive! If that touches the strap it'll effectively be shorting the battery!

Top tip thanks! I just fixed it down there until I can get my boot empty and stick it in there :) Will sort it tomorrow evening.
