I've seen a M52B28 at my local scrappies and it's going for a very tempting price.
One problem, the engine loom has been cut to buggery!!
Is it worth getting the loom rewired and getting the engine??
Scrapped M52B28 - Possible wiring loom fix??

I know about the EWS that why I was reluctant as the scrappy didn't have the ecu for it, nor keys.Bob_S wrote:yes you need the ecu, ews unit and key and the ews key ring
I was looking for an M50B25 but when I saw the M52 I thought Oooooo! but I don't want the EWS hassle and especially not the hacked loom!!!!

I'm sure you can find an ecu etc from fab and the like.. it's worth doing over the b25

could you not get just the engine (at a knockdown price hopefully) and source the loom, ews etc from a B25? then get the B25 manifold and B28 chip to get the fueling etc right?
i guess it's a bit of a risk re nikasil etc if it's been scrapped (maybe due to the engine) and you can't see/hear it running first?

Was advised that the engine that the engine was running well before it was removed. But would a M50 2.5 litre ecu work on the M52 engine?gareth wrote:could you not get just the engine (at a knockdown price hopefully) and source the loom, ews etc from a B25? then get the B25 manifold and B28 chip to get the fueling etc right?

If it's from one with VANOS it would be worth a try imo.
Some of the early ones did not have the vanos so youve got to be sure the ECU can run it.

Standard M50B25 ECU will just about run a 2.8, but very badly. Ideally something like a unichip is needed
Easiest/most straight forward way is to use the M52 ECU and wire up the EWS

In simple terms, you will need an M52 ECU,engine loom,EWS gubbins with matching key to make this work properly.IF you can source these bits at a price that still makes sense with the motor you have found, you are in business!
