Anyone have any recommendations on where to get insurance for a m42 manual swap?

I got a whole pile of quotes, Adrian Flux was the best standard insurer for me. Competition insurance worked out cheaper though.

I phoned my usual insurer the day before my policy on the 316 touring was up for renewal and said i'd just thrown the M20B25 engine/gearbox and Lsd in.

Premium stayed the same :woohoo:

I was expecting them to add on another £200 ish to the price

Normal insurer that just insures for normal road driving. I'm insured by a company that provides cover for road rallying, cover that I would normally buy separately. It worked out cheaper for me to buy one policy that covers everything.

I never managed to get this IS insurance effect you's have mentioned, if i'd stayed with my standard 316 auto, it would have cost me £330 fully comp, for a swap im having to pay £560 TPFT :(

Rather chuffed now especially since the first company I insured it with made a big fuss in asking me several tims wether it was a 318I and not an IS.

Yes, if you are changing to the same original engine insurers I've talked to refer to it as an engine change - standard replacement. It's never cost me any more so it'd be daft not to mention it and give them a way out of paying up. Replacing with a different engine is definitely important.
