when i put my foot on the brakes and release it the revs rise a couple of hundred rps's. after a few seconds they drop again. any ideas?

It could be the valve in the vacuum line to the servo failed or leaking.The valve in the vacuum line is a non return valve. It basically makes sure that the vacuum stays in the servo. If you didn't have the valve, the vacuum level would go up and down depending on the engine revs/throttle opening. Check that general area for leaks or split pipes?
