Just had some plonker pull out on me on a roundabout right next to my work, was quite an impact at about 15-20mph. His car has 1 scratched centre cap on his alloy and that's it!!!

Now check this out

Yep got his details, I did just say I'll take the cash but he said no way even though his excess is Ԛ£400 (which I reckon is roughly the amount this is gonna cost). I also have a split rad :x

But like you say it coulda been a shite sight worse.
And like Adam says it's just the little things I don't need - the car is off the road :(

tell him you he can go through insurance, and get a quote for 2 new wings, new valence and new bumpers+ paint, thats an easy Ԛ£1k charge there.

sorry to see that mate

did he not even offer a free haircut?? (after all it is a hairdressers car  )

He was a solicitor so he isn't short of a few bob.

If I can blag Ԛ£1k surely the insurance company would say it was too uneconomical for repair? If that did happen you wouldn't see me on the zone again..I'd be inside doin time :shoot1:

could certainly put a group of "persuaders" together if needed  :x 8O

if you can prove the car's pre accident condition, then Ԛ£1k may be ok

They valued my car at Ԛ£670 first of all, and my local BM garage siad it would cost about 3K to fix

so they said defo a write off, i battled it out and got Ԛ£1100 for ir in the end, then minus Ԛ£330 because i wanted to keep the car.

NU are bastards tho and wouldn't let me get a quote from any other garage.

Its currently getting repaired for around Ԛ£400 which is with the rear arch being treated aswell, cash in hand, so no VAT

Cant wait to get it back now, im also waiting for my solicitors to claim my Ԛ£670 ecxess back.

Hope it all goes smoothly.

If he insist's on going through the insurance then claim for a sprained wrist and bruised knee and emotional stress, (and a bad hair day) that way if they do write it off you might get more than the car's worth, but i doubt it :(

It also goes up because insurance companies are daylight robbery. maybe a splash of fraud doesn't help but you can't blame people for abusing an unfair system.

Insurance is a legal requirement. I don't see goverment run insurance agency for third party only. I don't think it's fair that I have to go to a third party (insurance company) and pay them to fulfil a legal requirement to be able to drive.

It proably *is* a good idea to have insurance as a legal requirement. It's just better all around really imho.

All the insurance companies resell insurance from a few bigger companies which are all part of some kind of "insureres union" which is just a market regulating pile of fascism. My mate had an awesome idea of setting up an NPO (non profit organisation) to sell third part only insurance at bargin basement prices. Now that's the way to do it. I reckon the underwriteres, banks of the insurance companies are making really unjusitifed huge profits here and I reckon it's got to stop!

In all seriousness do you actually think you are going to get a lot of cash for that damage.
Unless I am missing something the photos just show a load of scratches on the black rubber moulding and maybe a small bit of paint required on the painted bumper.
There is no way you are going to get a new radiator or Ԛ£1000.

If he has Ԛ£400 excess and he did not want to give you Ԛ£50 max (that is what I would have offered - or perhaps even less) then he is probably in the know and will fight it.

Maybe I am wrong and the photos do not show all the damage but that is my thoughts.

According to the bodyshop repair assessment it snapped a mounting point on the rad, which then made it loose enough for the viscous fan to cut through. And then to match paint etc the guy said it's at least Ԛ£300 there - I don't care about the money I just want my car how it was.

The guy in the porsche couldn't care less (at least he could drive off).

Would you offer me Ԛ£50 if you had a Ԛ£400, or would it be Ԛ£50 regardless of excess? I'm on this forum because I own an E30 that I take a lot of pride in (driving about minding my own business then outta the blue someone takes it away from me due to their stupidity). Fair enough if you offered me Ԛ£50 and didn't really care much about my car which was in good condition still then I wouldn't react so bad, but as you can imagine at the time I was fuming.

If someone had just done Ԛ£300 of damage to your enthusiast-owned E30 and offered you Ԛ£50 for it, I doubt you would say yes.

Have you stated on your insurance the Alpina reps and any other mods?

He may just rely on the fact that if they're not stated then your not covered.

I hope for your sake you have stated all mods to your insurance company.

As I said the pics may not be telling the whole story. The difficulty is that from the damage shown it is easy to say 'I could not have damaged his rad etc 'cos there is no cracked bumper, no dented wing etc, etc'.

That is the aurgument I would be using if in his situation.

If I was in your situation I would probably have kicked his car as well and yes you are right if he had offered me Ԛ£50 I would have told him where to go.

suggesting defrauding an insurance company is a stupid thing to do - especially on an iopen public forum

insurance as a legal requirement is a good thing tbh.
if it wasnt a requirement a lot of ppl wud not have cars today, cos when some prick runs into them and writes off their car theyd notb e able to replace it.

Yea the wheels are declared. Just got back from an anger venting session on the mini-moto :)

If it goes through insurance they choose who do the work, but luckily I think the place next door is one of the biggest in the region, so hopefully they give me the quote in the morning and the insurance company get on the case ASAP.

To be fair the bloke was helpful, but was on business and lives about 150 miles away and is going on holiday on Monday..
