Touching up rusted body work

Looking for some tips/advice on touching up some rusted spot on the body work of my touring.

I've got a bit of nastyness at the full cap, right beside the screws holding the plastic lip in. Also got a few bits under the bonnet (I'm sure there's more but this will be a start) which would be ideal to practice on.

Have 2 kits from BMW (paint and clear coat) and some spray made up in halfords to suit mauritius blue.

Once I've removed the rust how do I set about making it presentable again?

Maybe there's tutorials someone can link me to?

I've not done it before but there is a product by hamerite, I think, which you paint onto the metal after you have removed the rust (wire brush or rubbed down with wet and dry paper) and it will protect the metal. someone on here is bound to know what it is called.

Then use a cleaning agent to clean the surface - alcohol wipes - then a coat of primer - then clean again - then a coat or two of the paint - then a coat or two of laquer (clear coat)

I have some rust on my slam panel beside the bonnet hinge mounting and that is what I as going to do. Let me know how you get on.

Rub the rust back, apply some kurust, a bit of filler if necessary, zinc primer, top coat.

turns rust into metal doesnt it, i have a small bit of rust in the sunroof tray which i used this on

a also removed the boot seal and treated the soft parches under there so they dont rust away like most e30s, then went over it with a touchup pen
