Exhaust cat?

Can someone tell me if my 1990 318is needs a cat on the exhaust or was the car made before they were made legal? Thanks[/list]

They were made a legal requirement in august 1993(IIRC) for the uk so you don't need one.

My 1992 K reg VW was still on a carburettor (Scirocco GT2) 8O

my k was registerd in feb92,so when i fitted the full system i removed the cat. :D

So long as the car will meet the emission limits even after the date, a cat is not required for the MOT. Quite a number of differing vehicles have been decatted and will pass emission tests for the MOT.
I used to have an old 525e with 172k on and the only cat that had seen was the neighbour's when I ran over it :mad: and it would pass the emssion test for a cat engine with no bother.
