Why make up a story about it not turning up, when it quite clearly has?

Any E28 experts?

Not sure if it is the same as in the E30s but failed Service Lights and rev counter was nearly always a failed ni-cd battery on the SI board. It is apparently possible to solder in a new battery. Though I'd recommend just exchanging the board for one with a new battery fitted. I got mine from Munich Legends though that was at least 6 years ago. Not sure if they still offer that service.
I note that the car has been sitting for a long time. It might just come back to life with some regular use... though that is probably a long shot.
