things still to do...

what do folk reckon about the need to use the x pipe which came with the S50 manifold?

If I can get away without using it, the job of welding the systems together is much easier as all i would need to do is lob off the front part of the 2 part 325 system I have.

Bits of pipe have just arrived from Jetex 8)

Also known as a balance pipe, it's a deliberately placed collection and turbulence-inducing section of the pipe designed to keep 'banks' with equal backpressure... Can also have a slight venturi effect, helping scavenging in conjunction with the backpressure. The torque curve can be shaped very slightly by it's location along the exhaust also. - In your application, Lee, I don't think it's really necessary at this stage. - You can cut your bodge out later and get one put in.

Mine has a fat Y around the factory distance, with the large diameter single pipe I already had from Blue Flame... AAS in Newcastle say this should work largely the same as a H/X pipe as they've dyno-tested 6cyl WTCC before to see if they could get away with the cost/lighter weight of a single titanium pipe rather than full twin system.

Cheers :) I wouldn't have thought it would make a huge difference to Lee's application seeing as the mani is off a different engine anyway :D but who knows!

I may just go with the easy option as the down pipes from the S50 manifold end just near the driver side lolipop bush, with the stock 2 piece 325 system this routes itself along the driver side of the gearbox, so I'd just have to chop it where the S50 downpipes end and weld the f'ker up.

As said, I can use the x pipe later on if I feel it isn't working well enough but it may end up a single pipe system in the future with a rear mount turbo instead of a back box :D

LEE, i didn't bother with the x pipe and still managed more than standard torque when dyno'd.

Well little brother is on his way up the A1 as I type this, I've told him to bring one of his spare CT26 turbos from his Supra collection, just for measurement purposes of course :)

Ive never bothered with an X pipe either, even on my latest exhaust which is a lot better than any ive done before.

I think my X pipe will be donating the flanges and getting welded to the 2 pipes from the 325 system

well we have an exhaust system and a functioning gear selector.

Tipped £5 of juice in it and it starts but idles like a complete pig.

Hunts up and down, so think I'm going to have to start searching for an air leak or something.

Any M50 experts got any suggestions? I can't recall making any changes to the wiring or plumbing since I started it and let it tick over for 10 seconds about 6 months ago and it didn't idle dodgy then.

Any tests I can perform?

possably just a sticking idle control motor it may well get better , if not just clean with carb clean and oil with duck oil / wd40 . i found that to work on mine as the engine was sat around for a few months before i fitted it .

disconnecting the ICV made no difference so it's possible it needs a clean up

Small update

Filled the PAS system tonight and then introduced some coolant to it, was a nervous experience filling a dry system from scratch, took ages before there was any heat coming out of the vents. I'm pretty confident I've got sufficient amount in the system. The thing is still idling like a pig, disconnected the ICV and it made no difference, so hopefully the replacement item that is on the way will sort the job.

Also got to figure out how to get the lambda sensor out of the manifold. There was 2 on the system. One on a downpipe and one on the x pipe. As luck would have it, the one which I have kept which is on the bottom of one of the downpipes is a different connector to the one on the car loom, the one which was on the x pipe has the right connector.

The blow torch was needed to get the lambda out of the x pipe. Trouble is there is naff all room around the downpipe to get a set of stilsons on, so I have 2 options, either get the soldering iron out and splice the correct connector plug onto the existing lambda sensor, or butcher the sensor so much that I can get a 21 or 22mm deep socket over the top and hopefully remove it, hmmm :?

I am an utter spastic and have put the front brake calipers on upside down on the wrong sides, so they need to come off and be swapped over and I need to get some new front flexy hoses.

Lee i fit exhaust for a living and lamdas are a twat. If you can get a 22mm spanner on and give it a few good licks with a hammer you will have a better chance than with the oxy. If you do warm it dont get it tpp hot. They are a fine thread and tend to all become one big mess with no threads left with too much heat. Shock is my first port off call with these little tw*ts

I need a higher rofile than shrick will do for me mate on standard internals and cats are £688 so think i am going to get kent to re profile mine for about £350. What do you reckon to kent cams? I have only herd good thing

Kent are a well established brand, never heard any bad news mate, it makes sense.

What duration are you going for? Yours is a non-vanos lump too isn't it?
