well i have an '83 e30 and i was about to change my cassete player, when i noticed that the inlet, had a normal metal holding that ended half way in, and in the middle there was kind of like a metal T shaped part. so i was wondering, maybe there is something missing from there, i am shure that when i go over bumps or stuff like that the stereo is banging against that mettal T shaped part, the only part i think, that the end of the stereo is resting on. :(
hmmmm i would be glad if someone could remove the stereo and take a picture of the hollow inlet of the car stereo, so i might get an ideea what is missing from there... pls send them by mail to axl_mk@yahoo.com
thanks!

some head units have anti theft brackets to prevent some chav scumbag twoking it. it sounds like one of these.

I cant take any pics, as mine is glued in place.

thanks for the advice, i tried to remove it before, but now i pulled it a bit offset and it got loose, turns out that it is the support for the car stereo, but the rubber or the cushion was torn away leaving only the metal part. so now i recovered the part and put it back in!

now theres a bit of problem with the metal sheet inwich the stereo slides in, it won't lock with this stereo since is not compatibile, i'm trying to find the sheet somewhere else ,maybe i can find it as a separate part for sale.

Fink yer talking about the cage into whihc the unit fits...If so, not all cages fit all head units as the locking pins are in different places and of different types..

If the unit was ever fitted to a jap car, then it most likely had the cage locks removed as jap fascias have a screw-in fitting surround to keep all DIN units in place.

Your new head unit should have come with a cage of its own (unless its 2nd hand) or...
