This council thing bothers me.

Regardless of how original or non-council your e30 is a portion of the public will think it's "council" anyway. The styling of the M-Tec 2 Kit for example is pretty vulgar by todays standards. Not everybody appreciates the E30 like we do.

Also by labelling someone elses car as being council, does one think that they are taking some sort of high ground because their 20ish year-old bmw doesn't fit their interpretation of that label? Seriously???!!!!

Yes some E30's do look shit and are modified distastefully. But that's in our opinion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if the person who owns it is happy then who the fuck has the right to say anything against it?

Different strokes for different folks. If we were all the same then life would be pretty boring.

Maybe it's a british thing.... who knows.

In my opinion the very act of calling someone else council is pretty much the most council thing one can do.

In the words of Mark Twain:

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great"

This next bit may start an argument:

I think for example that a 17" Replica Alpina looks way better than a 16" Genuine one. Regardless of what people think if I was opting for Alpinas and all I was interested in was style then I would definitely prefer the 17's

Yet people on here would label the 17's as being council!!! I bet some other people on here agree with me on this one!

Does this give someone who has the 16's for example the right to label the 17's as being council..... No.
The really rich people in the world could easily afford to put rims underneath their NEW BMW's that cost more per corner than a mint 325i Sport in its entirety. So in reality do you get membership of some sort of exclusive club because your wheels cost a couple of hudred quid more that someone elses.... No!

No offence to anyone on here with Alpinas BTW, I just used that as an example.

Sorry about the rant, but this shit really gets on my nerves.

Yeah this one has probably been done to death in the past. Maybe to the level of the 6-Pot Vs. 4-Pot thing?

I'm relatively new to the zone though so I've never seen one of these threads pan out yet.

But 17's Alpina's are very wrong on a visual and quality level.. Heavy (I would say round...)

I think clearly you misunderstand the use of the word council on the forum.. 17" Alpina's aren't council, they are just rubbish for example...

Value of the base car means little or nothing. It is worth the value of it's parts.. Fit shitty cheap parts and it is a turd.. I choose to drive an e30, I could have bought some 'proper' machinery with the money i've spunked on it, doesn't fuss me too much. When the fooker is running right I love driving it..

OHHH deer, can of worms...

It is true that the most people (not zoners) my mates ect... think BKs look better than Alpinas.

All E30s look "council" , as do most old cars.

nothing to do with value, a tasty council sport costs the same as a non council early posh 911.

In your opinion that may be the case, I think that they look better. Does that mean that either of our opinions are wrong.... No.
Jhonno wrote: I think clearly you misunderstand the use of the word council on the forum.. 17" Alpina's aren't council, they are just rubbish for example...
I agree with you on this one. I would never put them on, but as I said... I think they look nicer.

I'm in the same boat as this. I've in fact just changed down from an E92 M-Sport to an E30 and I have to say I'm much much happier.

I'm not tying to prove the "council" thing wrong based purely on money though. I have a problem with the whole attitude in general. The money is irrelevant.

As for your car, I think that's quite nice too. :)

Fair enough, I don't like the look of either of them but one of them obviously fits the stereotype that seems to be prevalent on here.

Assuming neither of them are yours: Do you have the right to judge someone on their lack of taste?
Even more importantly though, do you have the right to try and use an antiquated snobbish class based system to judge that same lack of taste?

Are you a member of the royal family or something?

What does it say about someone if they use that label against someone else? That they themselves base their own measure of their self-worth on a class-based system??!

It beggars belief that in a modern civilised society that people can still think that they have the right to use terms like this.

I'm ranting again........... :o:
