D-man I would love to do this....
I can do almost anything automotive. Trade beater, trade painter, I am a paintless dent repairer, Licenced A/C and I can pull apart and put together anything, but for the life of me I dont get electronics.
One day however I will give something like this a go
Super effort mate love the car.... Would be a weapon im sure...
How does it compare to your 2.7 though?

Looking good Malcolm - a set of bottletops would finish off the sleeper look very nicelydaimlerman wrote:I have bought a new computer today,so at last I can bring you the exterior shot of the 'folly'... as I mentioned earlier, the reg. mark was retained from my Daimler, this at least gives me an excuse to keep my user name!

Thanks for your kind comments, very welcome!Regarding wheels,I now have three sets of 15'' wheels, unfortunately they are three different patterns! Can anyone identify the wheels shown in the photo, please? These came with the car and need a re-furb,fancy satin black sides to the spokes and silver fronts..they also have three 'ditchfinder' tyres labeled 'Darkhorse'....4th is a Firestone...for this years roam I have come across a set of 15''BBS with good Goodyears!Regarding comparing the two cars, jury is still out.My wife hated driving the 2.7,she now prefers that to the M50 touring!
The 2.7 is easier to drive quickly,it picks up at almost any engine speed in any gear, the M50 needs revs on to get going and objects to a high gear at low engine speed.Given the same usage, fuel economy is almost identical so far, with the M50 having a slight edge. After roam I will have a far better idea of how the cars compare and will report my findings.

As this elderly thread has been dug out I thought I would add an update.
Car has run pretty much fault free for two years,I re-built the front brakes following several 'brown trouser' moments on Roam 09,both front calipers were found to have sticky/siezed pistons.
Exhaust has been a running battle with the MoT man,the downpipe to middle section join really needs a proper reducer making for one pipe to match the one on the other and seal the system properly, but it sounds great with the minor blow from the join!
I soon swapped the high ratio 3.45 diff out for a much better 3.64 medium case one, fuel consumtion has not been affected, usually return about 33mpg.
We had cooling system problems in France the first summer,I finally caught the sodding top hose leaking whilst parking the thing in a French supermarket carpark, sent 'er indoors off to do the shopping whilst I bodged the leak, then found a French scrappie with a huge box of hoses in his shed for a more perminent fix!
Engine has been totally fault free,20k plus miles added to the 131K we started with, with just oil/filter changes and a set of plugs recently.Engine still impresses when erm, pressing on,drop it a gear or two and it takes off very well.Does need to be above 4k revs for the best go,though.
I have just about worn out the 'orrible 'darkhouse' ditch finder tyres, those odd wheels that they are on are also the wrong offset for E30,I found some thin spacers were needed to get them to sit right in the arches.I have a set of home re-furbed BBS cross-spokes ready to go on once the salt is off the roads, though.

Daimlerman, have you got any videos of this motor? Looking at getting a fritz exhaust this year and would love to hear how it sounds?
Is it deep? Not keen on the rattly sounding ones tbh.
My thing at the moment is deafining and not in a good way.haha. Think most of the noise comes from the centre box tbh.
Nice project too btw. Lot of fun to drive aren't they.

The 24v motor sounds completely different to the 12v M20,but sorry,no video's,the technology is way beyond my skills.
If I ever win another decent tax rebate I will add the rest of the Fritz system,it's a slightly bigger bore than the standard one that I am using, but the cost is more than I can justify just at the moment.
Important bit is that every time I turn the key and drive the thing it makes me smile, when that goes, the car will soon follow!

Shame you've no videos, wonder if anyone else has some, would like to hear.
Some M50's sound nice and deep and others can have a raspy note to them, not sure what makes the difference. both sound good tho.
Haha, yeh its not cheap is it, id be tempted in just buying the M50 manifolds and then making up a system to go with it. Shall see.
Well hopefully the smile never goes, doubt it.

I have bought a new computer today,so at last I can bring you the exterior shot of the 'folly'... as I mentioned earlier, the reg. mark was retained from my Daimler, this at least gives me an excuse to keep my user name!
