Quite impressive methinks

haha, from the looks of things you just cant leave things stock! nice mod nonetheless.UweM3 wrote:got a bit or work done today.
one I prepared earlier. Modified bonnet hinge to a quick release design. Make life much more easy. Bonnet can be taken on and off without messing with the bonnet alignment
note silver pin

Even 2000-3500rpm there is a big whole in the torque which shouldn't be there but its not fuelling.Dave_M3 wrote: That S50 could even run a little better going by the AFR graph too.
im not criticising at all. i think its quite cool how you can knock things up like that which are there for actual use and not just for the sake of it. its also good to see someone who can do the work without sending the car to a garage and getting someone else to do it.UweM3 wrote:Benho, I am not tinkering for the sake of it. I only modify things if they don't work if I would like them to. The bonnet is always in the way, even when you do a little bit of service.
And to be honest, I saw the bonnet pins on an old DTM M3 and liked it.

Didn't take it as criticism at all mate, sorry if my replay came across like this.Benho wrote:im not criticising at all. i think its quite cool how you can knock things up like that which are there for actual use and not just for the sake of it. its also good to see someone who can do the work without sending the car to a garage and getting someone else to do it.UweM3 wrote:Benho, I am not tinkering for the sake of it. I already make a small number of products I sometimes sell. But I have a very long development time. I.E. the adjustable top mounts I make had to endure 1 year of Nuerburgring and other trackdays before I offered them for sale. I don't like selling things which are not tested and I can assure they are up to the job. Not a very profitable strategie, but I have had not one returned part since.Benho wrote:i cant wait to see this project finished and your next crazy contraptionhave you ever thought about marketing the hinges? im sure a fair few people on the zone would love to buy them off of you.
when i eventually get round to sorting out an E30 for myself would definately be the quick release bonnet. so simple and practical i dont think that can go wrong. also the Lifting gantry would go down a treat for most of the lads on this board.UweM3 wrote:I already make a small number of products I sometimes sell. What type of stuff would you buy off me (not really, just suggestions please)?

Would you pay £350 for the gantry? If I would have seen this before I probably wouldn't have made mine!!! The winch is only £20. OK it can't be dismantled but there is a whole lot of other things to consider when fabricating stuff people use and can get hurt with them. It's not that easy as it may look. Imagine if somebody uses a lifting device you have made and he brakes a leg. Even if it was his own fault you can be in all sorts of trouble. (Instructions, load tested, failure test bla bla bla).Benho wrote:me personally wouldnt because i wouldnt ever need such a piece of equipment but considering the cheapest ive seen is:

@ £385 (it doesnt come with a winch and cant be dismantled) im sure there would be a market for a fair few to be knocked up.

Are you sure you need to weld brackets for this ?
I'm using an M3 rad, and it dropped straight in.
Ian.

Ahh, good point. I forgot the M3 shell never got the facelift changes.glenn wrote:my m3 doesn't have the slots in the chassis rails that accept the m20 radiator mounts. so i had to weld brackets for the radiator as well.

yes fine for LHD, just a little bit bulkhead in the way. Some people just hammer it back, I am going to cut and weld the bulk head.MrBenn wrote:Awesome build, I want one! (who doesn't!)
I'm guessing the exhaust manifolds don't need to be modified for a lhd unlike fitting it into a normal rhd e30?

Good to know : ) I'm sure you would anyway, but please post pics of the modded bulkhead when its done.UweM3 wrote: yes fine for LHD, just a little bit bulkhead in the way. Some people just hammer it back, I am going to cut and weld the bulk head.
I have a B32. But I would also have used a B30, the B32 just came along at the right price and milageMrBenn wrote:Good to know : ) I'm sure you would anyway, but please post pics of the modded bulkhead when its done.UweM3 wrote: yes fine for LHD, just a little bit bulkhead in the way. Is there any particular reason you went with the b30 over the b32?
can't wait to give it some beans. Swap not going as fast as I wish (various reasons)89pgy wrote: good to see the progress Uwe. We are missing you at the track, just Bob and me in the E30,s now. Hope to chase you soon

when I am finished you can have them for your swap project..........89pgy wrote: p.s love those axel stands mate.

E28 M5 mounts fit perfectly, and with the correct angle. You need to put the lower stud in the outer hole, but apart from that, they fit fine.UweM3 wrote:Yes I know it will fit with the E28 M5 mounts if you bend them enough but I just can't live with the wrong angle
Ian, I made some "solid" mounts and the angle from the engine arm to the cross member is not the same. The E28 mount only fits because the rubber makes it flexible. It is not a huge amount but if you want to use a more solid mount it will not line up.ian332isport wrote:E28 M5 mounts fit perfectly, and with the correct angle.
