They were an upgradable option at Ԛ£400, probably looking at double that now for a new one surely

just go for a 3.91 dude. they're common and don't cost the earth. it may bog down the acceleration a bit but you'll faster off the line! There proably won't be much of a difference when you're high up in the revs either (i.e. when you've got the arse out)
But although I've got a 318i I've not driven it on a 3.91 so I'm just guessin'
Maybe somebody can set us straight?

I have a 4.1 LSD from a u.s M3 , the car has done 20000 miles ! . The diff is like new, no corrosion anywhere. I want Ԛ£400.

^ That sounds goood.
I got my 4.1LSD for about GBP 440 I think. That was for the parts from a ex 2L touring car (E36 race car) from the racing out here and it was rebuilt with diff lapping (or whatever it's called) and stuff. Not including fitting to my car though but I don't think you are either? You have a touring car series over there so maybe there are still parts like that around that you can get from the early to mid 90's BMWs and get them put into your diff casing?
