Tank pretty much full?
1-filler pipe is rusty
2-rubber joining pipe from 1 to tank neck is perished
3-tank neck is rusty where it enters tank
1 and 3 are involved and potentialy expensive,2 could just be a loose clip....

Had this problem on my e30, turned out to be the rubber ring seal that sits between the fuel pump and the surface of the fuel tank where the pump clips down, under the rear seat bench.
