I had a geezer in the bar last night, and we got chattin about Beemers, as u do.
Turns out he's got a 1989 530i in his garage doing nothing. It's got 72k on the clock, FSH and sounds pretty mint.
He was asking me what I thought it would be worth. I offered to go take a look at it. If it's an E28 I'd be very interested myself but I have a sneaky feeling they stopped being made in '88. Is that right?
What year did E28's go out of production?

I don't think the 530i was an E28 model - they did a 528i and a 535i E28 but nothing in between.
The last E28's are E reg, also the first E34's are Ereg. - I think production of the E28 ended in mid-late '87.
With it being a 1989 model it will be an F or a G plate - Definately an E34. Bloody good car as well

I'll have a look anyway. It sounds nice. I'll try to work out if he's keen to sell it too and do some advertising for him if he is.

E34 530i is the poor man's 535i,much like 320/325...E34 is perhaps the best built BMW ever, E28 does tend to rust like an E21.
Big engined E28 is very discrete,only the boot badge to tell 'em apart from the outside,minor brake/suspension differences under the skin.They make very fine long distance cruisers,even my mother in law commented on how comfortable the back seat was in my old 520i

E34 530i is a nice car. Yes the 535 was a better car but don't dismiss the 530.

If I was going to buy a 5 series it would have to be an E28. I'm sure the E34 is a nice motor but it's just the wrong shape for me! - I'll still go see it though and report back...
Leon, yes I would like an E28 but it's going to have to be the 525i and I'm going to have to save my pennies before I look for one.

Great engine and the power is a margin better vs 530 but fuel conuption is better on m50

or the greatest of them all ALPINA B10 BITURBO ((as i did
))
even today stunning straight performance 180mph real speed
