When I used them first they where listed as E500 but for some strange reason they are not listed anymore. The later E500 has larger disks, whatch out. I have a drawing of the modified disk.buster wrote:nice one cheers.I thought they came off a w124 or 500 or something. 300mm x 28 wide is all i know.UweM3 wrote:SL129 disks. I use ECP, BREMBO. What calipers do you have? You know that they need some slight milling as well?
I made a writeup on e30.de, look here http://wp1016621.wp027.webpack.hosteuro ... f00464.htm

yeah i can mill them at work, but i also have a set of brembo 4 pots which suit a 28mm wide disk so i may use them if i have enough clearance.
I've looked on ECP but cant find them. What year and model exactly ?

They are M60163. Very interested to see your brembos! I was thinking along those lines as well.
EDIT
oops just realised, I bought the disks at German and Swedish
But ask for the BREMBO disks, otherwise you just can any other make

hmmmm, they are lug mounted. I was thinking of getting some Porsche Boxter radial mounted.
Some Boxter run a 302x28mm disk and if I can get the caliper to fit behind my wheels I would keep the Merc disk. I am quite happy with the brakes (so far......) and they are a very cost effective solution. Have done a whole season at the Ring (approx 1500kms) with ROADPADS and the disk are still good for another season. I would first upgrade the pad before fitting larger disks to be honest. Worth a trial (with the 300mm disk already I am talking)

very good progress, you are kidding me. My engine bay is still emptyian332isport wrote:Hi Uwe,

today I found out that the "german" version of the wiring harness has the ECU plug on the correct side of the E30's ECU location. No wire fiddling/re-routing required!
I am not looking forward to the electrical bit, it may be all easy to you guys but I rather cut an engine block in half and weld it back together. Seems much more easy to me
PS was already hunting for a wiring loom on german Ebay and loads of looms for sale. Guess what? They are all from RHD cars....
My S50 is also from a ZM, I believe they have the ECU mounted in the same place as an E30 but if the S50 is from an E36 then its mounted above the glovebox.....UweM3 wrote:today I found out that the "german" version of the wiring harness has the ECU plug on the correct side of the E30's ECU location.
Excellent fabrication skills there btw! And tell us more about your brake mod please?

nothing special with the brakes. Just the usual E32-735 caliper and Merc disk swap. Or use E34 540 caliper.
Has worked fine for me so far.
My ZM loom has the ECU plug on the wron side and I have been told that the fuel relais is missing as well, part of the ZM car loom. How did you wire yours?

hello uwe,UweM3 wrote: and I have been told that the fuel relais is missing as well
it looks to me like the fuel rail is there, but the plastic rail that holds the injector plugs is missing? it also holds a few other wires and plugs, as it looks like your tps only has a short loom on it and the plug is hanging down ?
sorry but I am a bit lost. There is NO loom on the engine at all.glenn wrote:hello uwe,UweM3 wrote: and I have been told that the fuel relais is missing as well

the fuel rail, yes. But not the plastic channel with the plugs. That's dangling on the loom lying in my garage.glenn wrote:

The ZM loom that came with my engine (from a RHD ZMRoadster 1997built) was almost perfect for the E30 engine bay. The ECU wires are all long enough to mount tidily in the standard E30 position and if you wanted to keep the E36 style wiring cover there's very little you'd have to do. As it goes I am fitting it all into an E30 4 pot wiring cover which makes it a bit more of a pain in the rectum but hey-ho.
The relay for the fuel pump is indeed in the car loom, not the engine loom but that was a piece of pee pee to re-wire in the engine loom. I've not yet wired in my EWS circuit into the car so am yet to see if the thing starts. Nearly there but I'm out of money and working a new job up in the midlands so progress is slow.
Good to see your swap coming along Uwe. Very impressive, though you should stop worrying and slap it in there.. Bit of old string and a jack should be all you need to drop the engine in...

I used E34 M5 booster and mastercylinder,, 25 mm vs 23 on M3
((I have the E30 M3 wheelconversion and the brakes are fantastic with the 25 mm master

got a bit or work done today.
one I prepared earlier. Modified bonnet hinge to a quick release design. Make life much more easy. Bonnet can be taken on and off without messing with the bonnet alignment
note silver pin

take pins out and bonnet is off

ready to start work

first careful lift

and up it goes!

strange view that is

I also found a way to get the engine back up the drive

engine wheeled in

and a well earned break!

I am quite please with the function of the lifting gear. Everything worked smooth and the car was always stable.

I once tried to push my s50 half a mile up the road on machine mart castors.. Naturally they broke so me and two others dragged it through Coventry and lifted it into my student front room. They are HEAVY.. lol
Bonnet releases?? Me WANT....
Bonnet releases?? Me WANT....

very easy to make. I used to M10 Stainless Steel bolts (no need to use a bolt but that was the only SS I could findjaistanley wrote: Bonnet releases?? Me WANT....
just grind one side of the hollow BMW pins off and drive it out. Replace with SS bolt and secure bolt with cotter pin. I want to replace the cotter pin with some R-shape pins later.
Don't forget to disconnect the gas lift thingy before you try to walk away with the boonet

Hi,
Uwe- Your firmly converted to the dark side now !!!
Can you feel the Force.
Looks like you got this all sorted.
Brings back a few memories, sloping drive,
fresh air, tea breaks, good light, rain,
wind, moaning neighbours ...........
Once this is all complete you will wonder
why you did not do it sooner.
Compbrake now do a nice remote servo for
those interested.
Regards,
The Gorilla.

Damn good idea..
I have a carbon bonnet and dont really want to leave it on all the time. I shall be living in Coventry soon where people are slightly less desirable than round these parts... I think I might have some stainless bar around here somewhere too that looks like it'll be the right diameter!
