What I am trying to work out is if a lsd off of a 325i sport would work on a 318is?
If not what combinations can be tried/reccomended?

yes it will work all diffs are interchangeable on e30s!
only prob is u will have ti shhorten the prop as the diff is longer,
this is done by removing the heatshield and loosening the collar nut on the rear half of the prop nr the centre bearing.. then hit the prop forwards from behind to desired length-----easy peasy

Cheers Karan. Do you know if the 318is has a lsd as standard ala 325is?

No it doesnt
318is diff is an open 4.10 as std (though LSD was an option)
the 325i sport LSD is a 3.91
Cheers,
Robin

A few of the iS boys have had 3.91 LSDs in their cars and i think they complained of decreased accleration!

They are the diff ratios..
A 3.91 diff, which is standard on later Sports will require 3.91 turns of the propshaft for 1 rotation of the wheels. (I think this is correct?!)
A 4.1 will require 4.1 turns on the prop for one rotation of the wheels.
Therefore on the motorway, a car with a 4.1 diff fitted will rev higher at the same speed than a 3.91.
On an iS, I think a 3.91 is close enough to a 4.1 to be ok!
A Sport would be perfect with a 3.73!

Ahh I get it.
So if I was to fit the sport diff on an is then it would effectively make it higher geared.
Giving it a theoritical higher top speed but slower acceleration?
Cheers for your help guys. As you might have guessed I pretty much want to have an lsd on whatever e30 I buy lol.

I got an indicated 145mph out of a 325i with a 3.64 LSD for many miles pileing across europe
Was actually 130 odd (132/3? cant remember) real speed on the GPS though
Car didnt want to go any quicker even though there were plenty revs left - think it had hit its aerodynamic limit, cause it was running well (been thrashing round the ring) and had a zone wild chip
Cheers,
Robin

Fook me is that how much they sell for?
I am so tempted to go to Scotland to buy the 325isport that's for sale up there for Ԛ£300. Just a shame I am in the south west!

About the normal price a 3.91 goes for, so a bargain if you ask me
I think when Jimbob had a 4.10 for sale over here he was asking Ԛ£150 more than that!
If I had any spare money I'd already have bought it, they are rare as rocking horse shit

Mate it is on here in the for sale ads. It has the nicest condition half leather I have seen for a long time!
My thoughts are for the kit lsd wheels interior engine and box it is worth the trip.
Body hanging that's all.
