right just a thew quick questions.

1. I'm guessing that the heater pipe from the back off the head goes to the top off the matrix?

2. fuel pipes! why is there 3 pipes to the engine bay which do what?

3. whats the size of the spacer for the e36 rack?

4. i have a hose marked charcoal filter !! whats this?

5. there's two vacuum hoses going to some type of valve or sensor near the air box !! whats this and what can i do with it ?

6.do i need to change the coding plug as its a 318is ? what does it do and where is it ?

cheers Simon

I can answer number 4 for you. The charcoal filter is part of the fuel system, and "catches" fuel vapour so it doesn't get release to atmosphere. Engine vacuum then draws the vapour from the canister into the intake manifold through a solenoid-controlled valve. It's technically called a purge canister.

You can do away with it for the purposes of this conversion. Blank off the pipe, and on the 2-pin lead that goes to the valve solenoid connect the two wires through a 64ohm resistor. This will make the ECU think the solenoid is still attached so won't report a fault. One of three fuel lines you mention might be the breather line from the tank, while the others are the feed and return.

1/ Wrong
2/ One (the one by itself under the car) is the tank vent. Rubber hose on the end of it just pushes into the reinforcement structure for the suspension turret, out of the way.
3/ Whatever gap you end up with - measure it.
4/Shorten it and plug it near the manifold.
5/ Sure these aren't water hoses?
6/ You need a coding plug from a 6 pot. Lives on the bottom right front of the instrument cluster.

That is the thermo switch for the throttle heater. Not needed in this country.
I blank the outlet at the head (next to the temp senders) and block the hose

i bought the conversion of jaffro on here as a plug and play kit but every thing that he had done was lets say bodge, and the ews loom he forgot to give me when i picked the engine up (i forgot also) he was supposed to post it to me but never did. That's when e30topless got hold of me and had bought the e30 that had the engine in and the ews was still in it. 8O So he very kindly took the wiring out and sent it me and the ews module is missing  . waiting a reply to make sure he hasn't got it then if not its new ecu and wiring loom :(

Ive read that the wiring loom for non ews is different is this true? is there a way to get around this?

Only slightly different, if you dont mess with any green wires you wont have a problem using a non-ews ECU :)
