Budget IS short shift. These the correct parts?

lo guys, just got a quick one here. Im gonna do a short shift on my IS, now on the short shift write up its got a big list, but with only a few things actually needed for the conversion

The bits in blue are all im going to order. Now on the IS i heard you can just fit everything in without having to bang the rod so that it bends properlly.

Also, is the Z3 the shortest one you can get? If theres an even better one for the same price and ease of fitting ill get that instead.

I fitted a Z3 2.8l one to daves touring last night (no this morning) and it seemed to sit okay. I think you should wait for the outcome when the car drives.

Hasn't Geeman already tried that? Went fine IIRC...

Is it just the reconditioning bits that are awkward to fit? Mine are in desperate need of sorting, so I'm gonna do that this week... I'm skint though so if I can wait & swap the lever easily at a later date, I'll probably do that...

Sam,

It's worth going for the reconditioning bits too, the rubber bushes and so on, because it'll make it feel better, it may be a few extra quid but it'll be worth it.

Mine 'feels' really good, but gotta actually try it out on the road! (Hopefully later today!)

it's for a 1.9 iirc. Dave, i'll be interested to hear how the 2.8 shift works out. I put the 1.9 on my tourer a few weeks ago, and while it's better i would like it to be a bit 'snappier'

Apparently it is supposed to be shorter still than the 1.9 lever!

Are you going from 1.9 to 2.8, or from standard E30?

From standard to 2.8.

However, I have had a go with Andrews 1.9 ( I think !) So I know what that feels like!

I think it's a case of dropping the gearbox to fit the reconditioning parts. The short shift is pretty straight forward if a little fiddly. If a technical retard like me can do it there's hope for everyone.

I put the 2.8 lever in my Sport... it was great! - I didn't have to bend the selector road as it was brand new and came with a shape already taken out of it to miss the prop joint thingy... You might (probably will) have to bend the existing rod if it doesn't have this part taken out of it already...

I've got the 1.9 lever in the track car and it's okay, but because I've got used to it now I think that I might get the Z3M lever for the next time...

Is the Z3M lever a, similar sort of price? As far as i know theres only a few types of shifts people go for. The 1.9, 2.8 or Z3M, whats peoples opinion as to the better one?

I have the 1.9 but is the z3m even shorter than the 2.8??

The re-con bits are more urgent tbh - mine's a right state at the mo! Most of it's in the article in the tech section, but has anyone written up what else I need to do anywhere? It's on a 325i cab btw.

Think I'll just bite the bullet & get the lot including 2.8 lever.

You would need to drop the gearbox down to change a couple of the recon bits, but not all of them.

One of them, not sure which, you can change because it is just behind the gearlever under the car. Not much help really is it.

The 2.8 gearshift on mine is really nice. It is easily short enough, and with all the bushes replaced, it feels lovely and tight.

Just the way I like it.

Guess I'll just get the bits & get stuck in... Never done anything as major as dropping the 'box on this car! That's a good thing though, compared to the 4 boxes I went through in a year on my 2.8 capri :lol:

edit: Just found a post where Adam reckons he can do it in half the time now he's done so many...

Time to go visit him I reckon! :lol:

There was one pic going round a while back with most of the E36/Z3 shifters on it, but not seen for ages
