the calipers reach very high temperatures, so you need heat resistant paint, so i dont think hammerite will do.
you can buy spray cans of heat proof paint.

You have to use the right paint a mate of mine painted the calipers on his Red Top Corsa and the paint set on fire!

Dont think you can get the right paint in a spray can, all the stuff i have seen before has needed a paint brush to apply it.LeonNewton wrote:If spraying I gess you must mask the piston?

Trust me normal paint will not work, if it dont set on fire it will start to go a brownly/black colour.
Think how hot a caliper gets it needs special paint, use normal paint and you will just make it look worse in the long run.
If your going to use random paint you may as well get a tin of dulux out

Not sure what you mean, are you saying there are lots to choose from of there is a someone selling lots of cans as a job lot for £7
If its £7 for a can it sounds alright considering some places want like £25 for one can, if its lot s of cans for £7 then yeah its a bargain

There you go just painted my callipers yesterday with the very same product... I have painted 4 calipers so far and still have more then half the can left....... I suggest you clean and clean and clean those callipers. Use heaps of degreaser toothbrush more degreaser.... carby cleaner thinners prepsol more degreaser... Basically clean it till there is no dirt... Takes about 1/2 hour each calliper... If you cut corners on your prep the job will look crap....

no offence but the tiny pathetic calipers on an E30 are best hidden by painting black rather then painted red.

Did you paint them in-situ or did you remove the calipers and disassemble them?

He painted in situe but when he changes his pads he will do them again.
I may mask inside wheal wells and paint them hung from brake lines. Verey carfully.

if you read the small print on the back off the cans youll find that hammerite has a higher working temperature than some of the heat resistant paints.
ive not had a problem using hammerite but as said a nice black is better suited to a little e30 caliper rather than drawing attention to your basic brakes. and red, blue or yellow etc on a rear drum is a definate definate no no.
