I have a m52 engine almost ready to drop into my car and have a m50 inlet manifold to give it a little power boost.
My question is will the inlet bolt on as a direct replacement? Do i use the 2.8 throttle body or the 2.5 one?

A wee Pm to Ste will clarify who does the manifold kit, but it says that the M50 TB is the same size so use that one...E3024v.com wrote:The M50b25 inlet manifold flows much better but is not a straight fit as there is no provision for the M52 ICV. Luckily a cunning engineer in Essex that goes by the name of Alpina527 has engineered a solution....... This pic shows how restrictive the M52 inlet is in comparison to the M50 inlet:

Whats the oil seperatot for? Is it neededDanThe wrote:You dont need a 'kit' you either bin the oil separator or get a couple of T's and 90° elbows to plumb it back in.
2.5 throttle body is the best to use as it fits properly and is neater

Wow, I didn't think the difference was that much! How does the M50 manifold ports match upto the M52's? Woudl the M52 head benifit from further porting?ricey46 wrote:A wee Pm to Ste will clarify who does the manifold kit, but it says that the M50 TB is the same size so use that one...E3024v.com wrote:The M50b25 inlet manifold flows much better but is not a straight fit as there is no provision for the M52 ICV. Would it be advised to keep it or bin it?DanThe wrote:Separates oil from the crank case breather and drains it back to the sump

you can't use the 328i ITB straight on a 325i manifold as you'll have two o-rings on top of each other. sliver of ally works OK though. they're the same bore, people who use 328i ITBs on adapter plates are guys with ASC on e36s and 39s. I would (and have) use the 325i throttle body.

On my old 2.8 I used an M50B25 cam cover and breather setup, it did (still does) pull more oil through to the induction than a 2.5 does, if you can live with a bit of oil burning then bin it.
I will be reusing the separator on this latest engine and should be getting on to it later in the week so will let you know how I get on
