Hi all, is it possible to adjust the hood so that it closes really tight?
We have had two days of rain and the hood is leaking in both corners at the windscreen and through the seal above drivers window.
Can the windows be made to close higher?
What tips or advice can you give to help stop these leaks?
The hood is only 5 months old and is in good condition.
It also leaks ever so slightly through both corners of rear window.
I need your help and advice guys.....

I had this problem bud..

well if yer seals look intact and pretty tight then its probably yer rubber has dried up a bit..

goto an electrical store (maplins etc) and get some Silicone grease and spray yer rubber..you can do it all over those seals if you wish along yer roof..it puts a nice waterproof seal on the top which is very good at repeling rain and should cure your problem..

dont be temtped to use any outher sort of grease and it will probobly attack yer rubber as most contain cleaning agents too..

think the cost was about Ԛ£3.50.

Definatley go for the silicone stuff.
As for the windows ... they are adjustable up and down but don't adjust them too high or the window will catch on the roof lip. Don't remember off hand which bolts adjust the height but Bentley explains it very well. My scanner is not working at mom otherwise I would post the picture.
Maybe another zoner can do it ??

vasaline is good but messy
you want glycerine as the rubber absorbs the glycerine and it swells up again or take the rubber strip off and place a pices of string under neath it to get a tight seal if that dosent work then 80 plus notes to the stealers i am afraid
just bought one myself as my was gone passed repair

I managed to solve the passenger side, there is an adjustment on the hood, again it is in the bentley manual and I have no scanner, I may try typing it out when I get a minute, but is in section14 page 39.

My seals had split, so i packed them out with foam, and this made things well water tight!

Will try the glycerine / vaseline idea as well.

Just need to go the local chemists and get a tub..

I had a similar problem and ended up changing the seals and doing the job properly.
Vasaline will knacker the rubber, silicone is ok.
If you spent all that dosh on a new hood Ԛ£100 is worth it to prevent water gettin in and the tin worm hatching out the seals are available ex BMW Germany through the local BMW Stealership.
Good luck with it mate.

cheers. How easy is it to change the seals on these roofs coz i`m going to need to change mine as the water also found its way to the rear footwells.

Is there also a seal for above the windscreen, might as well change the whole lot. Again how easy to replace and how much to buy? 8O

if it's the bit I think you mean, it's a complicated molded single piece of rubber which does the windscreen/roof seal and above both doors

looks like this

|_____|

it's amusing to fit, and I couldn't find o/e cheaper than www.motormec.co.uk who sell genuine BMW parts... I think it was 60GBP

ps don't pull the 'whiskers' off (you'll know what I mean if you buy one) - look carefully at your old one before you take it off to see how they fit
