right i have an ECU on my 325i cab which has this printed on the back.

PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS FROM CAMCO 88
TYPE: ECU ENGINE CONTROL
PART NO: XEBM0073
MAN NO: 0 261 200 073
SERIAL NO: 070120H
APPLICATION: BMW

and motronic embossed in the front.

my question is, is this standard in some cars or is it an uprated ECU? also will it be interchangeable with a bosch?

Motronic ECUs are standard on some E30s. What year and model is your car?

And forgive me for asking, but why are you thinking of replacing it with a Bosch? Does it not work?

The lable on the ECU is unlikely to give any indication of re - chipping by the way. You'd have to open it up and check inside.
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

The important thing is the number ending 073, which I think is pre facelift, and possibly a 325?

Anyone out there who wishes to correct me, feel free :o:

isn't bosch the make and motronic the softwere on the ecu . so a motronic ecu would be made by bosch . may be wrong though

Completely correct. Motronic is the 'operating system' if you like.

073 is a '85 - '87 325i ECU, running ML3.3 software.
The Camco sticker probably just signifies that it has been repaired, or sent for testing
