I get that as well, i think it's of the way the hood folds into the compartment

there should be only one horizontal fold in the middle and this will disappear if you warm it.

See, the thing is, I've tried different ways off folding it up yet i still get two creases. I must be doing something wrong... any ideas?

Right guys.. cars been sitting a while, so first job was to get her jumped !
Image

i recieved my straps this morning.. :D here they are..
Image

Now, i bought the straps, thinking that my bar which is the pivoted one needed some help/tension when the roof is going down so it would also pull the fabric back with it !!
you can see the pivoted bar in the pic
Image

So, the straps went on and i tried the roof !
I noticed that the bar is going back, BUT... That wasnt my problem at all.. !
Image

As you can see in the piccy, and as Dave mentioned earlier, my problem wasnt the bar not going back !!! it was these straps that were not folding back, hence the fabric was staying out and wouldnt allow the lid compartment to close ! Clearly see in Imys 2nd piccy...

So i grabbed some pliers and crimped the bastards !!!!

And the final result ??
Image
Image

So, for all that is suffering the same problem ! get your pliers out !!! winkeye

before you buy anything mate... try crimping the tension strap, like what i done in my picture and see what happens.. if no good, then you can have my straps that just came thru the post today.. :D

Anyway, thought i'd listen to Dave and give my roof a good ol service. !!!!!! (you can see where this is going yeah) ??

so i undone the screws and lifted bar 2+3 .. so far so good !

oiled and greased everything and worked the hood till i got bored ! that was about 5x..

bolted it all back up and operated the roof a few times. then ...... SNAP... the highest part of part number 4 just snapped.
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... ctric_roof

So a quick call to Shaz, who came to the rescue! luckily he had the bit need... come home pulled it all apart and back together again... Job done !!!!!! :D

Shaz... Thanks Bro :thumb:

after crimpin.. did they look like mine in piccy 4 ? after i crimped both sides on mine.. i still had to help the fabric push back when my roof was in position of piccy 5.. after that it just automatically jumps into that position now !! :D

it should not move when you service the roof as this has been disconnected from the roof assembly...wonder why it snapped...does the roof move more easily now?

I had a look today, from the looks of it in order to get my roof and strap to fold properly all I need to do is,
1 - "crimp" the strap as it has somehow bent the wrong way, causing it to hang out when folding the roof down.
2 - And get that metal rod thingy that runs across the roof through the loop on the inside of the roof, as i believe this will stop the roof from folding in rather then out (if you know what I mean??).

Hope this makes sense.. Can anyone advise me if I'm wrong?

Cheers

just to elaborate, i disconnected the 2 rods.. greased everything up.. connected them back and then i operated the roof about 10x... to be honest Dave, after i done service, it felt like it wasnt working as good as before, and then came the snap! i didnt touch the electrics after i disconnected the rods.. so i'll put it down to wear n tear ?? working alot better now with new linkage ! :D

Tari.. try crimping the straps first and see what happens mate.. take some pics of the procedure etc... and post up on here ! good luck

check page 2.. picture 4... i used pliers and gave the strap a good squeeze, it will stay in that position after the squeeze mate and should hopefully result as picture 5...

so if your sitting in your car, look up at the straps, and you crimp inbetween rod 1 and rod 2.. hope this helps mate !

:nono: dont cut mate... have a look at my picture.. you'l notice 2 straps, 1 ontop of the other... crimp the one on the outside 1, feels like its got wire inside ? so should stay in the crimped position..

does your rod pull back on its own when you put the roof down???

okay i notist if the bar gos back that folds the matereal. Then if you opan the uper and lower frunt straps ther is a pese of webing if you pull on this towords the bar it makes the straps fold completley diferant from tuking it in it lols more like its mint to de like it raver than crimping so i think 4 peses of elastik one each side bdtwen bars 1and 2 then 1 each side betwen dare 1 and the loop in betwen 2 frunt straps. Triy puling it with ur fingers ferst and u wil see how the frunt straps fold away perfect. Im shor iv got sum elastic sumwer

My elastic was completely dried out when I got my E30, which makes lowering the hood a pain. I was thinking about stitching in elastic directly on to the straps instead of the bungies. Might look aesthetically a bit nicer. I'll post pics of the attempt when I get it done.
