Wheel Studs instead of nuts

Done a quick search and found the following thread which mentions I need M12 x 1.5 studs with 38mm exposed length:

Next question is which nuts do I need? Would have thought it would be these - 12mm 1.5 19mm (3/4") HEX 60º

But as the car is 200 miles away I can't nip out and check, can anyone have a quick look for me?
EDIT - Standard 15" BBS with a 3mm spacer (to clear the wms brakes)

Nothing wrong with 'too long' unless you are running centre caps..

I am gonna go for the 48mm ones seeing as I have 5mm spacers not that that matters

I'd go for Loctite 272 dave, high strength and has a higher temp rating than most other anaerobic threadlocks from loctite (which is handy around brake discs) and is stronger than 262 too

Little bit of that round the threads and I would imagine it would be fine



either that or go for an adhesive/high stregth retainer like loctite 290 or 638

In addition to Driftboy and Dave's response.

They are essential when you decide to run rather large 4 or 6 pot calipers which have more material sticking out into the wheel spokes pathway,therefore requiring the use of wider than normal wheel spacers.

It also looks heaps better!
Honestly though. It's heaps easier to put wheels on, especially in the dark, and the discs won't spin and block the holes when the holding screw is stripped out and you no longer have it in there!

You shouldn't need to remove them when it comes to change the disks.

The only time they would require removal,would be when you replace the hub/wheel bearing assembly.

2 wheelnuts tightened against themselves always works for me when I need to remove them.

+1 for Loctite 272 - This is the Highest temperature permanent locking compound that they do.

I used it on my stud kit (bought the US$7 each studs from BimmerWorld) 12 months ago, and haven't had a problem since.

However, I'd highly recommend either cleaning out the existing threads with a M12x1.5 tap, or replacing the front wheel bearings before installing them - much easier!

So need 16 of each of the items at the top (studs and bolts), discs off, thread lock the studs in, job done?

No need to remove the discs Rich

They can be fitted with the discs in situ

I'd go for loctite 272 as I said above as it is marginally better than 262.

Clean out the threads of the hub and the stud with brake cleaner before using loctite otherwise it adheres to the grime in the threads rather than the thread itself. Also, with 270/272 loctite if you ever need to remove the studs for any reason then heat up the hub with a hot air gun and it will release much easier.
