£3k is not a lot for a sub 100k unmolested genuine Sport - I would have thought £3500 - £4k would be more realistic if you want it to tick all the boxes - you'd probably get a very straight fully optioned up non-sport within your £3k budget though.

You're completely mad. I, for one, was really looking forward to seeing your e30 fully schnitzered up, which would have been almost unique, and now you're going to go and buy a chav's car, and probably lose alot of money on your e30 and accumulated bits. An e36 is a perfectly worthy thing, especially an unmolested sport, but it's hardly a design classic. Why?

its time for me to stop spunking money on the e30... i need a reliable car that wont cost the earth to keep on the road... dont get me wrong i will miss the e30 like crazy but the 328 seems the sensible option at the moment.. i know im going to regret selling... but lives and learns...

bumlover, why not just get a E36 M43 engined 316i/318i for a daily driver and keep your beloved AC turd as a toy? Cheap to insure, excellent economy and an engine that is actually fixable if something goes wrong. They're no rocketship but about as good a daily smoker as you can get for sub £1500. A good 328i is a very nice car but finding a decent one is getting difficult. The youngest are 10 years old and a lot are now at the age where they need a lot of money spent on them on knackered suspension, balljoints etc. Considering the amount of money you've invested in your silver chariot that you're never going to get back it seems a bit strange you want rid.

What exactly is so unreliable about your E30? Having run both E30's and E36's for the last 10 years I'd say running costs are practically identical on a decent and well maintained example. What my E30 loses out on in fuel economy it makes up in not lunching its suspension every 60K. A good E36 is a better everyday car IMO but a little souless and probably too refined for its own good.

well there is nothing un reliable about the e30 as iv changed every possible serviceable item known to man on the e30.. and its never let me down in 320 form or 325 form.... its been fully rebushed and the suspension is £500 at the time of fitting(now costs over £600) the only thing that really lets the e30 down is the rear arch and passinger side door.. other than that its @ucking solid... even ant gave the car a 7/10 ffs... i just want a change and the missus wants me to save more money so we can get a bigger deposit for a house... iv had a insurance quote on the 328 sport and it came out at £370 fully comp.. 30 less than the e30 costs me... so not allot in it really.

Why not spend £1500 - £2k on a good 328iSE coupe and keep your E30 - switch it to a classic policy should cost you less than a couple of hundred a Year.

I've been down this road - prior to the E30 I have now the last 2 were totally rot free and I wish I'd never sold either of them. If you want to go back to an E30 in the future - which you probably will - even a couple of Years down the line the chances of getting a good one are getting slimmer and more expensive by the day.

You can get a decent 328iS for sub £3k these days with just under 100k on the clocks.

You just have to watch the rear arches... that's the main place they go if they've not been cleaned regularly.

I nearly bought one last month, but went VAG instead (again).
