Thinking of putting a sub or sub(s) and amp in my 325 cab boot. Any recommendations. I've heard jl audio subs are good but not sure what will fit in a cab boot?

this is how i got a 12inch in mine and still managed a 3 cubic foot internal volume and space for a wakeboard/golf clubs/shopping bags - although not all at once!!

use the space under the rear shelf as much as possible, i mounted the amp to the box as you see, the box is ported to the side not visible on the picture and i power the amp from the rear window heater element supply, which means i can turn it off from the front - handy for arriving in dodgy areas.

the thing is removable if required, such as a flat tyre day.

does not rattle too much, sound good in the car infact too bassy considereing it is not easy to fit some decent sized midrange in the cabs without mods.

Looks good Mr Lee. Looks like you have even more room in the boot than me... Is that a manual roof then?

I'm going to make a start on mine this weekend. I'm probably going to forsake sound quality for asthetics as I want to build a box that'll fit under the horseshoe so I can still get to the spare wheel.

I wish it were as easy as my old 2dr. I never did get to finish that either. :?

How the hell am I going to package this lot into a cab?

Sound's awesome, too loud in fact  . I've got it ported all the way into the cabin through the rear seat belt holder

It's a 1000W RMS sub

I cut a small hole in the metal panel that is behind the seats and then ported a tube all the way through so the air comes out through the where the seat belt holder is.

Sound's even better with the top down 8)

I haven't had five minutes to sort anything out as yet. I can't make up my mind... Do I buy a amped and carpeted single sub box from Halfords (vibe or something) or build a box myself and go under the horseshoe as much as possible. Do you have to make the box to specific size for certain subs or is it not that important? Interesting to read about 'porting' as this had crossed my mind too...

Whatever you do, don't go down the Halfords route, you will be wasting your money. The cabby is notoriously difficult to get decent bass into the cabin area, especially with the hood down. The amplified boxes in Halfords (and other retailers) are there for the Saxo brigade. At best they'll provide some 'boom' but will add nothing musically (depth and 'punch'). You also won't find anything on the market to fit under the horseshoe.
If you really want some decent bass in the car you will need to spend a reasonable amount of money. If you can build a box you will lower that cost. I've built many systems in various cars over the years and have just started building a lowish budget system in the cabby I bought a few weeks ago. I want to utilise the space under the horseshoe, so am using a pair of Kicker SL 10" subs in a custom made box. You could get away with just one sub if you have the ability to build a bandpass enclosure.
The main thing with your car is to manage your own expectations of the outcome. If you want a really 'kicking' system then be prepared to spend a fortune. You will likely need to involve a professional installer who can adjust and tune the install to your requirements. This is the main reason I'm not throwing loads of cash at this one - it simply won't perform like others I currently have or had in the past.
If you'd like a few pointers to get the best out of the car and spend money wisely, let me know.

Thanks Maf (and everybody else) for your input. I have decided to put it on hold for a short while and save some more money to throw at it. I reckon I'll go down the route of making my own box. Does anybody know if the sub box has to be a certain size for particular speakers or is it not to important?

I'm working on one atm, box with 2 12" subs.
Taken time to work out the port sizes out, but think i've narrowed it down.
Hopefully should have it installed and running by the end of the week.

My mate had two 15" subs in his cabby, sounded mental but too much rattle :(

Mine is pretty good and pretty much rattle free.

The only way to get bass in a cab and make it fit. 4x 8" and go isobaric, you only need 3 cubic liters.
