looking to fit new speakers
Moderator: martauto
Im looking at getting some new speakers in my 318is
I want to do the fronts first, ive seen some 5.25" components on sale at my local halfords.
I know a few things about car audio just a little concerned about fitting the tweater. Is it reasonably easy to fit it by the A piller or can i get something to attach it to the interior base plate of the mirror?
cheers
Ross.

Do a search on here for tweeter pods. They were OEM fit and slot in behind the mirror like you say. I have a set, but no pics unfortunately. I have yet to fit them either!

Right i think im going to get the speakers tomorrow then have a go at fitting them, should be reasonably easy i hope
Where is the best place to put/hide/mount the crossover box?
IIRC (could someone confirm)
- pos and neg into crossover box
- pos and neg to speakers
- pos and neg to tweeter?

most speakers in halfrauds are half the price on the net
ive just fitted a set of these in the rear
http://www.alphacaraudio.co.uk/ViewProd ... AT_CODE=67
RMS power 10x better than any others around that price, quality is really good to. they have an inline built in crossover worth every penny imo
in the front i have a set of 5010cs infinity components and again really good value for money, get some tweeter pods for the tweeters, ebay.com is your freind, ive baught two sets from over in the US now and neither set cost more than £22 deliverd, there more readily avalible over there so tend to be a bit cheaper, with the crap exchange rates at the moment you will probably be paying closer to £30

I just drilled out the wing mirror blanking plate then glued in the tweeters. You can mount the driver's side crossover under the dash near the ecu and under the glove box on the passenger side. It really is worth doing for the quality of sound up front.

a mate of mine is breaking his e30, he wants £40 for the tweeter pods.
Got the speakers going to mount them in about half an hour
pony2- do you mean mount it to the underside of the glove box (not the part that opens though)
the hertz tweeter looks really good, i might just mount it on the dash (rough) to start with then maybe cut out like you have, if the speakers are staying in i dont see that it will matter cutting a hole
yours looks really neat
cheers for the help guys

rossd- I mounted the crossover behind the glove box (remove the glove box).
Cliffybabe put me onto the Hertz speakers, I am very pleased with them. You can mount the tweeters where you like, the ones I used had a number of different mounting options. They do not need to be flush mounted like mine but it saves on the expense of the pods, you can attach them where you like. It is easy to cut out the wing mirror blanking plate using a drill then a dremel you just need to be careful with the position so the wires have enough space behind.
Best of luck.

did you put your speaker cables going to your tweeter through the black rubber tube thing?
also when i looked i wasnt sure were to mount thecrossover box on the drivers side, wasnt sure where was the best place near the ecu
didnt have all the stuff i need to connect to speaker terminals so just fitted the coaxials that were meant for the back (for the time being)

By the "black rubber tube" I assume you mean between the door. As stated above there should be wires already in situ. I had trouble locating them, in the end I found the wire under the carpet and used a multimeter to check.
It is a bit tricky to find a suitable place to mount the drivers side crossover, I just stuck it to the bottom of the ecu although this isn't the best solution.
