im sure a zoner must have an e36 with roof bars. whats the deal with these, are they factory fit only? mine doesnt have them but they would be handy, cant really see anywhere to fix them onto though so im thinking the roof is different for roof bar cars.
also am i right in thinking the m52 thermostat housing is a weak bit of plastic and needs replacing just in case it cracks? i need to replace the stat anyway so i might as well do the housing as well. seems there are 2 stats listed, an 88 degree and a 92, not sure which one to go for.

I think the roof bars were only fitted as standard to the higher spec cars, optional on others. There are holes in the roof for them to fit into.
Thermostat housing is brittle, changed one recently and cracked it putting it back on. Have another on standby just in case!

where are the holes? the top of the roof is completely flat. is it under the rubber strip at the edge or is it a case of removing the headlining and drilling (eek) in the right place?
ive never seen a set in the flesh so i dont even know where they sit on the roof.

My car has them but I think if yours doesnt you would need to drill the roof to fit them - not something I'd fancy doing !
I wanted the dog-net that you can get with the rear load cover- but as it wasn't fitted from standard would involve cutting the headlining to fit the mounting points - not something I'm keen on doing !

If you can peel back the headlining a little you may find that the mounting points where you would need to drill are either already strengthend or may have indicators where you need to drill.

i have the dog net. if you need measurements or piccys of the mount positions let me know.
i would only get the roof bars from the scrapyard so i guess the easiest thing is wait for one with bars to come in, might be while but at least i can see where the mounts are when i remove the lining on the donor.

I'm scrapping an E36 touring. Roof bars (20 quid and dog guard (120 quid) in very good condition, but no top clips.
Could sell you the whole roof skin so you could see how it fits?
