Guys do you know any sites that offer the above info? I've been searching and all you get is new car data!!
My work is being relocated which will mean I'll be traveling 250 miles per week for work after next month. I know it's not huge mileage but it wouldn't be cheap in the old 335 so I'm thinking of moving on (still staying with BM's)
If you don't know of any sites but do now the approx MPG of say E36 318is, 325i, tds etc etc can you post up.
All the miles will be on the M40
Cheers chaps, Charlie

Yer thought about it but around my way there are no LPG stations

I've even thought about ripping the M30 out and fitting something 24v or even diesel. There's a manual 525tds for sale quite locally but don't know if I'll be able to persuade the other half to let me go through all the agro of another engine swap..

Perhaps I'm being a bit blind but I couldn't find anything relating to fuel consumption on either
Cheers anyway

That's a bugger

. Why not buy the 525tds for work and keep the 335 for weekend pleasure

I've just sold my E30's and picked up an N reg 525tds (e34), only driven it home so no real figures on MPG yet.
It's my first diesel BM and so far so good - will post some results within the week as I'll be doing quite a few miles - btw on the trip home (40 miles) I couldn't tell it was a diesel on the motorway

Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.
Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

My M535i with an M30B35 does 25MPG on motorway runs, and I can see as low as 16 around town.
The grin factor outweighs the large fuel bill!

If you have a 540 V8 you'd get more mpg and a bigger grin

I've owned the following with the approx fuel consumptions in mixed (real world) driving...
2002 (M10)...28mpg
1802 (M10)...28mpg
E28 525i (M30)....25mpg
E30 318 (M10)...30mpg
E34 530i (M30)...27mpg
E30 325i (M20)...23mpg
E30 320i Touring (M20)...24mpg
E30 M3 (S14)....26mpg
E34 525ix Touring (M50)...22mpg
I've also had enough of a drive in the following to know the fuel consumption:
E23 735i Auto (M30)...20mpg
E36 328i (M52)....29mpg
E34 525TDS....34mpg
I'm sure you *could* better these figures, but you may as well drive a 1 litre Micra if you want to drive that slowly or carefully...
1987 Henna Rot M3 (was 195bhp CAT..now more and no cat)

I have actually been measuring my e36 318is as accurately as I possibly can (working out every time I fill to the click)
Worst I get is 31.7 best I have got is 37.6mpg.
I recon I can get 40mpg if I really try..
Car has 180,000 miles and I live in central london, but most of the miles are motorway / welsh main roads (i.e. a bit bendy..)
I change the oil / air filter every 6000k and think it pays for it self in saving fuel.

Some interesting feedback here. fingerman you've got me thinking about the 525tds now, that's some good miles you've got. All my commute will be on the motorway so none of this stop start driving.
Has anyone done a diesel conversion in an E30 yet? Had it MOT'd yesterday, it pasted first time with the only advisory being "oil leak" which I could use as an excuse to rip out the M30 and drop a diesel lump in. hhmmm E30 325tds:)
anothere21323i my budget (if buying a replacement car) will be whatever I can get for my 335i..
Thanks guys, you've all given me a lot to think about.

have you got a sat nav? loading a LPG filling station map on will probably suprise you with how many there are out there. motorway service stations (especially BP) often sell it. worth a look at least...
on a nice cruise (to the ring) i managed 37mpg on LPG with my 335i.

Update from my TDS - fuel light was on so filled it right up - £65 reset the counter and got 670 miles out of the tank (back down the same position - fuel light on)
This includes mostly motorway 70-80mph and it being stuck on my drive with the engine running for well over over when the anti-theft alarm locked my out
Well chuffed - she cruises at 70-80mph with the real-time mpg thing at 50mpg and 2500rpm

Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.

That is mighty impressive

Seriously considering diesel

wife has a e39 2,5tds auto picked it up of ebay 200.000 on clock set the comp when i picked it up and drove home 200 miles at 70-80 all way comp said 46mpg when i got home . she drives it every day but only on school run which is a mile each way consumption now on the comp is 38mpg i think this is fantastic for a big barge of a auto car much better than my e30 325 at about 20mpg
